Factory resetting your Xiaomi 14T Pro is the most definitive way to clear out persistent software glitches, prepare it for a new owner, or just get a completely fresh start with HyperOS. It wipes everything, so it's a step you want to get right the first time.
Back Up Everything Before You Start
Your first move should always be a backup. On your Xiaomi 14T Pro, head to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & restore. Make sure your Mi Account or Google Account is selected and tap Backup to save your system data, apps, and settings locally or to the cloud.
Don't forget about your personal files. Double-check that your photos and videos are syncing to Google Photos or Xiaomi Cloud. I'd also manually copy any important documents or downloads to a computer via the USB-C port, just to be safe. Once you reset, there's no getting this data back.
Sign Out of Mi Account and Google
To avoid getting locked out by Factory Reset Protection (FRP), you need to remove your main accounts. Go to Settings > Passwords & security > Authorisation & revocation If your phone is completely unresponsive or stuck in a boot loop, you'll need to use the hardware buttons. First, power the phone down completely. Once it's off, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button together. Keep holding them until you see the Mi logo, then release. You'll boot into the Recovery menu. Use the Volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Data and select it with the Power button. Confirm by selecting Wipe All Data. The process only takes a minute before you can reboot. Before doing a full wipe, see if a softer reset solves your problem. In Settings > Additional settings > Backup & restore, you'll find an option for Factory reset. Tapping this gives you a choice: Erase all data or Reset phone settings. Choosing "Reset phone settings" will revert all your system settings (like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and sound) back to default without touching your apps, photos, or accounts. It's a great first step for fixing weird connectivity or notification issues on your 14T Pro. After the reset, you'll be greeted by the HyperOS setup screen. Connect to Wi-Fi and sign back into your Google and Mi accounts. When prompted, choose to restore from the backup you created earlier. Your apps, call logs, and system settings will gradually repopulate. This is a good time to be selective. If you were resetting to fix a problem, you might want to set up as a new device instead of restoring a backup, just in case a corrupted setting was the culprit. You can always re-download your essential apps manually. On a powerful phone like the 14T Pro with its Dimensity 9300+ chip, a reset is most useful for deep-seated software bugs, severe performance throttling that persists, or preparing the device for sale. For general slowdown, try clearing app caches or removing unused bloatware via Settings > Apps first. If you're selling the phone, the reset is non-negotiable. Just make absolutely sure your accounts are removed and the setup screen shows at the end, confirming the data is truly gone.
