The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL packs serious battery life, but it's not immune to wear. Add in a few known quirks, like heat during fast charging and picky wireless alignment, and regularly checking battery health becomes a smart habit. Here's how to test it properly on your Pixel.

Check the Native Battery Health Menu

Google built a proper battery health menu into Android 16. On your Pixel 10 Pro XL, go to Settings > Battery > Battery health.

You'll see the design capacity compared to your current estimated capacity, plus the cycle count and manufacture date. This is the most accurate starting point for knowing where your battery stands.

Use AccuBattery as a Backup Check

If you want a second opinion, grab AccuBattery from the Play Store. It monitors real-time discharge and charging speeds.

After a few full charge cycles, it estimates your battery's actual capacity versus the original design. It's a solid way to double-check what the system is telling you.

Watch Out for Heat and Charging Quirks

Here's the thing about that 45W wired charging speed, it generates heat. And heat is the enemy of battery health. If your phone is getting uncomfortably hot while charging, remove the case immediately to help it cool down.

Slow charging isn't always a battery problem. Some Pixel 10 Pro XL units shipped with a defective USB-C port. If the phone charges fine on Qi2 but barely trickle charges via cable, the port could be the issue. Inspect it for lint, and test with a 30W+ USB-C PPS charger before blaming the battery itself.

For wireless charging, alignment matters a lot. If the phone isn't centered perfectly on the pad, it generates extra heat without charging quickly. Center it carefully to get that 25W wireless speed and avoid unnecessary thermal stress.

Set Up Charging Optimization Right Now

Staying under 80% charge dramatically extends battery lifespan. Go to Settings > Battery > Charging optimization and turn it on.

The Pixel learns your routine and holds the charge at 80% until right before you unplug in the morning. Pair this with Adaptive Battery in the same menu, which restricts background power for apps you barely use. Together, they significantly slow down degradation.

Recognize the Signs for a Battery Swap

If the battery health reading drops below 80%, you'll notice it in daily use. The phone will struggle to last half a day with normal activity.

Watch for the red flags specific to the Pixel 10 Pro XL: random shutdowns with 20% battery still showing, or excessive heat during routine charging. If you're seeing those, it's time to start planning a replacement.
