If your CMF Phone 2 Pro is getting uncomfortably warm, you're not alone. A phone that overheats can feel sluggish, drain the battery faster, and in some cases, even shut down to protect itself. The good news is that most of the time, this is fixable with a few simple adjustments. Let's get your phone running cool again.

Check What's Running and Close Heavy Apps

Start by pulling down the notification shade and tapping the gear icon to open Settings. Scroll down and tap on Apps, then select See all apps. Look for any apps you recently used that might be resource-heavy, like games, video editors, or camera apps. Tap on the app and select Force stop.

You can also check your recent apps by tapping the square navigation button or swiping up from the bottom and holding. Swipe away any apps you're not actively using. Sometimes, an app gets stuck in a loop and keeps the processor working overtime, which generates heat.

Remove the Case and Let It Breathe

This is one of the quickest fixes. Take off any case, bumper, or skin you have on your CMF Phone 2 Pro. Cases, especially thick or poorly ventilated ones, trap heat against the phone's plastic back panel.

Place the phone on a cool, hard surface like a table or countertop. Avoid leaving it on a bed, couch, or in direct sunlight. Giving it a few minutes without the case on a cool surface can bring the temperature down noticeably.

Stop Fast Charging Temporarily

Charging generates heat, and 33W charging on a large 5000mAh battery can make the phone warm. If it's overheating, unplug it from the charger for a bit. Once it cools down, you can plug it back in.

For a longer-term fix if this happens often, consider using a slower charger. Since the CMF Phone 2 Pro doesn't come with a charger in the box, if you bought a powerful 33W+ USB-PD charger separately, try using an older 10W or 15W charger instead for overnight charging. It'll be slower but much cooler.

Update Your Phone's Software

Software bugs can sometimes cause the processor to misbehave and overwork. Go to Settings > System > System update. Tap Check for update.

If an update is available, install it. Nothing frequently releases updates for Nothing OS that can include optimizations for thermal management and battery usage. Make sure your phone is on a stable Wi-Fi connection and has at least 50% battery before updating.

Perform a Force Restart

If the phone is hot and unresponsive, a force restart can clear any temporary glitches. Simply press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds or until you see the Nothing logo appear on the screen.

This is different from a normal restart and doesn't delete any data. I've found this can immediately stop background processes that are stuck and causing the heat.

Adjust Display and Performance Settings

A bright screen and high refresh rate are major battery and heat consumers. Swipe down twice to open the Quick Settings panel and tap on the Battery Saver icon. This will immediately limit background activity and reduce performance.

For more control, go to Settings > Display. Try reducing the screen brightness manually. Also, look for a refresh rate setting and switch from 120Hz to 60Hz while you're troubleshooting the heat issue.

Identify Rogue Apps with Safe Mode

Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all third-party apps. If the phone runs cool in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is the culprit. To start Safe Mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears.

Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will appear asking if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap OK. Once in Safe Mode (you'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner), use the phone normally for a bit. If it doesn't overheat, restart normally to exit Safe Mode and start uninstalling recently downloaded apps one by one.

Avoid Intensive Tasks in Hot Conditions

Be mindful of what you're doing with the phone. Recording 4K video, playing graphic-intensive games for long sessions, or using GPS navigation for hours will naturally make any phone warm. The CMF Phone 2 Pro's plastic back can sometimes feel this heat more readily.

If you need to do these tasks, try to do them in a cooler environment, not in a hot car or under the sun. Take breaks during long gaming sessions to let the phone cool down. I'd recommend closing the game app completely during these breaks, not just minimizing it.

Check for a Failing Battery or Background Processes

While less common, a failing battery can cause excessive heat. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health. The interface in Nothing OS should give you an assessment of your battery's capacity.

Also, in the Battery settings menu, look at which apps are using the most battery since your last full charge. An app using a high percentage of battery in the background is likely also generating heat. You can tap on that app and restrict its background activity.
