When your Samsung Galaxy S23 won't charge on a wireless pad, it's frustrating because you expect it to just work. The issue is often a simple alignment problem, a setting that got toggled off, or a software hiccup from a recent update.

Center Your Phone on the Pad

Wireless charging needs the coil in your phone to line up almost perfectly with the coil in the charger. Place your S23 dead center on the pad. You should feel a slight vibration and see a charging animation or hear a sound. Being off by even half an inch can break the connection, so take a second to get it just right.

Take Your Case Off

This is the most common fix. Pop your case off and try charging again. Thick cases, especially ones with metal plates for car mounts or built-in card wallets, will block the signal. Most slim silicone or plastic cases are fine, but if charging works without the case, you'll need to find a more compatible one.

Verify Your Charger is Working

Make sure your wireless charger is plugged into a working outlet and that its indicator light is on. Some pads, especially faster 15W ones, need a powerful enough wall adapter. I'd recommend using the 25W adapter that came with your S23 or one that's rated for at least 25W. A weak power source is a frequent culprit for slow or failed charging.

Force Restart Your Phone

Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Side button together for about 10 seconds. Keep holding until you see the Samsung logo appear, then let go. This force restart can clear out temporary software bugs that are stopping the phone from recognizing the charger. After it boots up, place it back on the pad.

Check for Software Updates

Go to Settings > Software update and tap Download and install. Samsung has released several updates for One UI 6 and Android 14 that specifically addressed charging bugs and battery drain issues. Keeping your phone updated is one of the best ways to prevent these problems.

Clean the Phone and Charger

Wipe the back of your Galaxy S23 with a soft, dry cloth. Also, give the surface of the charging pad a good wipe. Dust, lint, or any kind of residue can create a tiny gap that disrupts the charging field. A clean connection is key for consistent wireless power.

Make Sure Wireless PowerShare is Off

Your S23 can charge other devices, which is a cool feature called Wireless PowerShare. If it's accidentally on, your phone won't accept a charge. Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full Quick Settings panel and look for the "Wireless PowerShare" icon. If it's blue or highlighted, tap it to turn it off.

Boot Into Safe Mode

This tests if a third-party app is causing the trouble. Press and hold the Side button until the power menu appears, then tap and hold the "Power off" option. Tap "Safe mode" when prompted. If your phone charges normally in Safe Mode, a recently installed app is likely the culprit. You'll need to uninstall apps one by one to find the bad one.

Try a Different Charger

If you have access to another Qi wireless charger, test your phone on it. If it works, your original pad might be faulty. If your S23 still won't charge on any wireless pad, the issue could be with the phone's internal hardware or a deeper software problem that needs a reset.
