If your Samsung Galaxy A26 5G has stopped vibrating for calls, messages, or notifications, there are several things you can try before assuming it's a hardware problem. Most of the time this gets fixed with a quick setting tweak or a system refresh.
Force Restart the Phone
Start with a full system reset to clear any temporary glitches. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for about 10-15 seconds until the device restarts. This isn't a factory reset, it just forces the phone to reboot cleanly.
After the phone comes back up, test the vibration by receiving a call or sending yourself a message. If it works now, the issue was a minor software hiccup.
Check Sound and Vibration Settings
Open Settings > Sounds and vibration. Make sure Vibrate while ringing is turned on. If it's already on, toggle it off and back on to refresh the setting.
Next, tap Sound mode and confirm it's set to Sound rather than Vibrate or Mute. When the phone is in Vibrate mode, it will vibrate but you won't see a separate toggle for it, it's the mode itself.
Adjust Vibration Intensity
Sometimes the vibration motor is working, but the intensity is set so low you can't feel it. Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Vibration intensity. You'll see sliders for calls, notifications, and touch interactions. Drag them all the way up and test again.
If you still don't feel anything, try changing the vibration pattern. Tap Vibration pattern and pick a different one. Some patterns use a stronger motor pulse than others.
Enable System Vibrations
In Settings > Sounds and vibration > System sounds and vibration, make sure Keyboard vibration and Touch vibration are turned on. This confirms the vibration motor can fire for system events. If you feel a buzz when typing, the motor works and the problem is limited to app-specific notifications.
Check App Notification Settings
If vibration only fails for certain apps, open Settings > Apps, select the app not vibrating, then tap Notifications. Make sure notifications are allowed and that Vibrate is enabled for each category. This is a common one with messaging apps like Samsung Messages or WhatsApp.
For Samsung Messages specifically, go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Notifications. Enable Show notifications and turn on Vibrate for both General notifications and New messages.
Test in Safe Mode
Safe Mode disables all third-party apps. If your phone vibrates normally in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is causing the conflict. To enter Safe Mode on the Galaxy A26 5G:
- Press and hold the Power button until the power menu appears, then long-press Power off. Tap Safe mode when prompted.
Alternatively, turn the phone off completely. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down together. When the Samsung logo appears, release both buttons and immediately press and hold the Volume Down key alone until the phone finishes booting. You'll see "Safe mode" in the bottom-left corner.
To exit Safe Mode, simply restart the phone normally. If vibration works in Safe Mode, start uninstalling recently added apps to find the culprit.
Update the Software
Software bugs can disable vibration. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If an update is available, install it. The Galaxy A26 5G runs Android 15 with One UI 7, and Samsung frequently pushes updates that fix small system quirks.
Clear the Cache Partition
One UI 7 can sometimes store corrupted temporary files that interfere with system functions like vibration. Clearing the cache partition won't delete your data. Here's how:
- Power off the phone completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button simultaneously.
- When the Samsung logo appears, release both buttons.
- Use the Volume buttons to highlight Wipe cache partition and press the Power button to select.
- Confirm with Yes, then select Reboot system now after it finishes.
This flush often resolves weird behavior that persists after a normal restart.
Remove Custom Themes and Good Lock Modules
Custom themes or Samsung's Good Lock suite can sometimes override vibration settings. Long-press a blank area of the home screen, tap Themes, go to My stuff, and apply the default theme. If you use Good Lock, try disabling its modules one by one to see if any are affecting vibration.
Run the Hardware Diagnostic Test
To confirm whether the vibration motor itself is working, open the Phone dialer and enter *#0*#. This opens the built-in diagnostic menu. Tap Vibration. If the phone buzzes, the motor is fine and the problem is software-based. If you get no response at all after trying every software fix above, the vibration motor may be physically damaged and require repair.
