If your Nothing Phone (3) battery is draining faster than you expected, the first thing I'd check is the battery usage stats. This will tell you if it's a general system issue or a single app going rogue. Head to Settings > Battery > Battery usage.
Look at the list of apps over the last 24 hours. If you see an app using a surprisingly high percentage, that's your likely culprit. A social media or gaming app stuck in a background loop is a common cause for sudden drain.
Update Your Software
This is often the quickest fix. Nothing regularly releases updates for Nothing OS that include battery optimizations and bug fixes. Go to Settings > System > System update and tap 'Check for update'.
Install any available updates. I've seen updates specifically target background processes that were causing excessive battery drain on previous models, so this should be your first stop after checking the battery usage screen.
Manage the Glyph Interface
The unique Glyph Interface on the back is a signature feature, but those LEDs do consume power. You can customize which notifications and functions use the lights. Open Settings > Glyph Interface.
Review the settings here. You can toggle off Glyph effects for things like charging progress, flip to Glyph, or for specific apps. Limiting these can save a noticeable amount of battery over a full day.
Optimize Display Settings
The screen is usually the biggest battery user. On your Nothing Phone (3), go to Settings > Display. First, consider reducing the screen brightness manually or ensuring Adaptive Brightness is on so it isn't maxed out indoors.
Next, tap 'Advanced' and look for the refresh rate setting. If it's set to 120Hz (High), switching it to 60Hz (Standard) will significantly improve battery life. Also, set the screen timeout (Sleep) to 30 seconds or one minute to turn the display off faster.
Control Background Activity
Apps refreshing in the background are a major drain. Navigate to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Tap on any app you suspect, then select 'Battery'.
Here, you can set the background restriction to 'Restricted'. Do this for apps that don't need to update constantly, like games or some utilities. Be careful not to restrict messaging apps like WhatsApp, or you might miss notifications.
Review Location Permissions
Constant GPS use is a battery killer. Go to Settings > Location. You can toggle it off entirely when not needed, or tap 'App location permissions' to manage it per app.
For most apps, set the permission to 'Allow only while using the app'. This prevents apps like social media from tracking your location continuously in the background. You can also turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning from the menu in the top right.
Check Your Connectivity
If you're in an area with a weak cellular signal, your phone works harder to maintain a connection, draining the battery. You might notice this if the battery drains fast even while the phone is idle. Toggling on Airplane mode in these situations can help, or connect to Wi-Fi if available.
Also, turn off Bluetooth and NFC if you aren't using them. You can find quick toggles for these in the notification shade you pull down from the top of the screen.
Enable Battery Saver and Adaptive Battery
Your phone has built-in tools for this. Battery Saver (sometimes called Power Saving Mode) is the most direct. Pull down the notification shade twice and tap the battery icon, or go to Settings > Battery and turn it on. It limits background sync and reduces performance.
For a smarter, long-term approach, ensure Adaptive Battery is enabled. Find it in Settings > Battery > Battery usage > Adaptive preferences. This feature learns your app usage patterns and limits battery for apps you rarely use.
Be Smart with Charging
Using the official Nothing 65W charger or a high-quality Qi2/MagSafe charger ensures you get the fastest, most efficient charge. Cheap, uncertified chargers can be inefficient and even cause the battery to heat up, which degrades its health over time.
Also, try to avoid letting the battery consistently drop to 0% or charging it to 100% all the time. Keeping it between 20% and 80% is better for long-term health. Nothing OS includes optimizations to help with this, but being mindful helps.
Perform a Force Restart
If the drain started suddenly and seems system-wide, a minor software glitch might be the cause. A force restart can clear this without deleting any data. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons together for about 10-15 seconds.
Keep holding until you see the Nothing logo appear on the screen, then release. The phone will reboot. This is different from a normal restart and can resolve temporary background processes that are stuck.
Reset All Settings
If you've tried everything else and the drain persists, this can help. It resets all your system settings (like Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and display preferences) back to default without touching your personal data like photos or messages.
Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap 'Reset all settings' and confirm. You'll need to reconfigure your preferences afterward, but it can eliminate a problematic setting that's causing the battery issue.
