Google is launching fuel prices in Google Maps and Waze in the UK, giving motorists a way to compare nearby stations when deciding where to fill up. Google says the feature uses Fuel Finder to show petrol and diesel prices in real time, helping drivers check costs before choosing a forecourt.
Drivers can search for "petrol" or "fuel" in either app to bring up the latest prices at stations nearby. Petrol and diesel prices appear on the map itself, so motorists can compare the prices shown alongside station locations.
The feature extends beyond petrol and diesel, with prices for every fuel type a station offers available together in one place. That gives drivers a comparison of nearby forecourts as well as a view of the different fuel options sold at an individual station.
Google is working with the UK Government and the UK Waze community on the feature. The company presents the price information as a way for UK motorists to find better value on fuel and reduce the expense of everyday journeys.
