When your LG QNED TV won't connect to the internet, all your streaming apps and smart features are locked out. Whether it's not finding your network, connecting but having no internet, or dropping the signal, these steps will get you back online.
Restart Your TV and Router
Start with the simplest fix. Unplug your LG QNED TV from the wall outlet for a full minute. While you're waiting, unplug your router and modem for 30 seconds too. Plug the modem and router back in first, wait for them to fully boot, then plug the TV back in. This clears temporary glitches in both devices' network modules.
Forget and Reconnect to WiFi
On your TV, press the Settings button on your Magic Remote. Navigate to Network > Wi-Fi Connection. Select your network name and choose Forget This Network. Now, scan for networks again, select yours, and carefully re-enter your password. This creates a fresh connection profile, which often resolves the issue.
Check Your WiFi Password and Band
Double-check that you're entering the correct WiFi password, paying close attention to capitalization. Also, try switching bands. If your TV is far from the router, the 5GHz signal might be too weak. Connect to the 2.4GHz network instead, as it has better range through walls.
Move Your Router Closer
Smart TVs generally have weaker antennas than phones. If your router is in another room or on a different floor, the signal can struggle. Try moving the router closer to the TV, even temporarily, to see if that fixes the connection. You can check the signal strength in the TV's network settings menu.
Update Your TV's Software
Outdated software can cause all sorts of connectivity bugs. Go to Settings > Support > Software Update and select Check for Updates. If your TV can't connect to WiFi to download the update, you can download the latest firmware from the LG website to a USB drive and install it manually.
Change the DNS Server
Sometimes, the default DNS server from your internet provider is slow or unresponsive. In your TV's network settings, switch from automatic DNS to manual settings. Enter 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 (Google's DNS) as the secondary. This can resolve pages that won't load.
Use a Wired Ethernet Connection
For the most stable connection, use an Ethernet cable. Plug one end into your router and the other into the LAN port on the back of your QNED TV. If your router is too far away, a powerline network adapter kit can send the internet signal through your home's electrical wiring.
Check for IP Address Conflicts
Rarely, two devices on your network might be assigned the same IP address. On your TV, go to Network > Advanced Settings (or Connection Status). Note the IP address, then restart your router. This forces your router to reassign all addresses and can clear up the conflict.
Reset the TV's Network Settings
If you're still stuck, reset just the network settings. On your LG TV, navigate to Settings > General > Reset to Initial Settings. You'll be given an option to reset only the network settings, which will clear all WiFi passwords and connections without affecting your apps or picture settings.
Use the LG ThinQ App as a Remote
If your physical remote is having issues, you can use the LG ThinQ app on your smartphone as a full remote control. This is helpful for navigating menus if you suspect a remote issue is preventing you from accessing settings. Just make sure your phone is on the same WiFi network during setup.
