Recording your screen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a fantastic way to create tutorials, save moments from video calls, or capture your gameplay. The built-in screen recorder is powerful and works on both the cover and inner displays, letting you document anything you're doing.
Start a Screen Recording
Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the Screen recorder tile, which looks like a video camera. If you don't see it, tap the + or edit icon to add it to your panel from the list of available tiles.
Tap the Screen recorder tile once. A small menu will pop up, asking you to choose your audio source before the countdown begins.
Pick Your Audio Source
You have three choices for sound. Selecting No sound will record a silent video of your screen. The Media sounds option captures any audio playing from your phone, like music or game sounds. For commentary, choose Media sounds and mic to record both the phone's audio and your voice through the microphone.
After you pick, tap Start recording. You'll get a three-second countdown, which is your cue to navigate to the app or screen you want to capture.
Control Your Recording
Once recording starts, a floating toolbar with a red dot appears. This gives you a pause button, a stop button, and a pencil icon for drawing. You can drag this toolbar anywhere on the screen to keep it out of your way, which is especially handy on the large inner display.
The toolbar also shows a live timer so you can keep track of your recording length. I'd start with the default settings, as they work well for most quick recordings.
Add Drawings in Real-Time
Tap the pencil icon on the floating toolbar to draw directly on your screen while recording. You can select different pen colors and tip sizes. This is perfect for circling a button in a tutorial or highlighting text as you explain it, making your videos much clearer.
Finish and Save Your Video
To stop, simply tap the square stop button on the floating toolbar. You can also swipe down to see your notifications and tap the "Screen recorder is recording" notification to stop. The video saves automatically to your Gallery app in a folder called Screen recordings.
Trim and Edit Your Video
Open the Gallery app and navigate to the Screen recordings album. Tap on your new video, then select the Edit button (it looks like a pencil). From here, you can trim the clip's start and end points, adjust the playback speed, or add background music. The editing tools are quite robust for quick tweaks.
Customize the Recorder Settings
For more control, go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here, you can change the video quality, which affects file size. You can also toggle on "Show touches" to visually display where you tap, which is a huge help for instructional videos.
Another useful setting here lets you choose the picture-in-picture size for the front camera if you decide to include your face in the recording.
Content That Won't Record
Due to copyright protection, most streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max will block screen recording, resulting in a black screen in your video. Banking and secure payment apps also restrict recording for safety. For everything else, your own photos, web browsing, or games, the recorder will work perfectly.
Remember that the screen's crease on the inner display will be visible in your recording if you're using that screen. It's just part of the capture and doesn't affect the video file itself.
