Screen recording on your Samsung Galaxy S24 is a powerful tool built right into One UI. You can capture gameplay, create how-to guides, or save a memorable video call. The process is straightforward once you know where to find the controls.

Start a Screen Recording

Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to open the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the Screen recorder tile. If it's not there, tap the three-dot menu or pencil icon to edit your Quick Settings and add it from the list of available tiles.

Tap the Screen recorder tile. A small menu will pop up asking you to choose your audio source before the countdown begins.

Select Your Audio Source

You have three choices for sound. Selecting No sound will record a silent video of just your screen. The Media sounds option captures any audio playing from your phone, like music or game sound effects.

Choose Media sounds and mic if you want to record both the phone's audio and your own voice commentary through the microphone. Pick your option and tap Start recording. You'll get a three-second countdown.

Use the Recording Controls

Once recording starts, a floating toolbar with a red dot appears. It has buttons to pause, stop, or open the drawing tools. You can drag this toolbar anywhere on the screen to keep it out of your way.

The timer on the toolbar lets you track the length of your recording. I find it helpful to move the toolbar to a screen corner immediately so it doesn't block any important UI elements.

Annotate with the Drawing Tool

Tap the pencil icon on the floating toolbar to draw directly on your screen while recording. You can change the pen color and thickness. This is perfect for circling a button you're tapping or highlighting text in a tutorial.

Just tap the pencil again to hide the drawing tools when you're finished. Your annotations are saved as part of the video.

Stop and Save Your Video

To finish, tap the square stop button on the floating toolbar. Alternatively, you can pull down the notification shade and tap the "Touch to stop" notification. The recording saves automatically to your Gallery app.

You'll find it in the "Screen recordings" album within Gallery. The video is saved in MP4 format, which is widely compatible for sharing or editing.

Trim and Edit Your Recording

Open the Gallery app and navigate to your recording. Tap on the video to play it, then tap the pencil icon labeled Edit. The built-in video editor lets you trim the start and end points, which is great for cutting out any fumbling at the beginning.

You can also adjust the playback speed, add background music from your library, or apply a quick filter. When you're done, tap Save to overwrite the original or Save as copy to keep both versions.

Configure the Recorder Settings

For more control, go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here, you can change the video quality. Higher quality like 1080p looks better but creates larger files.

You can also toggle "Show touches" on, which displays a white circle wherever you tap the screen. This is incredibly useful for creating clear instructional videos. You can adjust the size and position of the selfie camera picture-in-picture window here too.

Understand the Limitations

Due to copyright protection, most premium video streaming apps like Netflix or Disney+ will block screen recording. You'll typically see a black screen where the video should be. This is normal and not a problem with your phone.

Similarly, banking apps and secure payment screens often disable recording for security reasons. For virtually everything else, browsers, social media, games, and your own photos, the screen recorder will work perfectly on your Galaxy S24.
