When the predictive text on your CMF Phone 2 Pro stops working, it can turn a simple text message into a chore. The suggestions might vanish, autocorrect could start making bizarre changes, or the keyboard might just feel less smart than it should. The good news is that Nothing OS is generally clean and stable, so a few targeted fixes usually get things back on track.

Restart Your CMF Phone 2 Pro

This is the quickest thing to try and often the most effective. A simple restart clears out temporary glitches in the system that can affect the keyboard. Just press and hold the power button, then tap "Restart" on the screen.

If the phone is completely unresponsive, you can force a restart. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds or until you see the Nothing logo appear and the phone reboots. This doesn't erase any data, it just gives the system a fresh start.

Check Your Keyboard Settings

Sometimes the feature just gets turned off by accident. Open the Settings app and navigate to System > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard > Gboard.

Inside Gboard's settings, tap on "Text correction." Here, make sure the switch for "Show suggestion strip" is turned on. You can also adjust settings like "Next-word suggestions" and "Personalized suggestions" to tailor how the predictions work.

If you're using a different keyboard app from the Play Store, the settings path will be different. Look for the specific app's settings within the same "On-screen keyboard" menu in your system settings.

Clear the Keyboard App's Cache

The keyboard stores temporary data to help it run quickly, but this cache can become corrupted. Clearing it is a safe first step that won't delete your personal dictionary or saved words.

Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Find "Gboard" in the list and tap on it. Select Storage & cache, then tap "Clear cache." I'd start with just the cache before moving on to the more drastic step of clearing data.

Update Gboard and Your System

An outdated keyboard app can have bugs that break predictive text. Open the Google Play Store, search for "Gboard," and see if an update is available. Tap "Update" if there is one.

It's also worth checking for a full system update. Nothing periodically releases updates for Nothing OS that can include fixes for core components like the keyboard. Go to Settings > System > System update to check.

Reset the Keyboard to Defaults

If the predictions are still off, resetting the keyboard can wipe away any bad settings. This will revert all of Gboard's preferences back to factory defaults, so you'll lose any customizations.

Head back to Settings > Apps > Gboard > Storage & cache. This time, tap "Clear storage" or "Manage space," then look for an option to "Clear all data." Confirm the action. Afterward, you'll need to go through Gboard's setup prompts again.

Try a Different Keyboard App

If the problem seems isolated to Gboard, installing an alternative from the Play Store can confirm whether it's an app issue or a deeper system problem. Apps like SwiftKey or Grammarly are popular choices.

Once installed, go to Settings > System > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard and enable the new keyboard. You can then switch between keyboards by tapping the keyboard icon on your navigation bar. If predictive text works perfectly in the new app, the issue is likely with Gboard's installation or data on your phone.
