Is your CMF Phone 2 Pro starting to feel sluggish? Even with its clean Nothing OS, phones can slow down over time as storage fills up and background tasks pile up. The good news is there are several straightforward things you can do to get it running smoothly again.
I'd start with a simple restart. Just press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the phone powers off and restarts. This clears out temporary system glitches and is often the quickest fix.
Free Up Storage Space
When your phone's storage is nearly full, everything slows down. Head to Settings > Storage to see what's taking up space. The CMF Phone 2 Pro doesn't come with a charger, so if you're using a slow one, your large 5000mAh battery might not be charging efficiently, which can sometimes affect performance during use.
Look for old downloads, cached app data, and large video files you can delete. You can also offload apps you rarely use by going to Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Storage & cache > Clear cache for individual apps.
Close Background Apps
Too many apps running in the background eats up RAM. Swipe up from the bottom and hold to enter the recent apps view. Swipe each app card up to close it. For a more thorough clean-up, you can go into Settings > Apps and force stop apps that are misbehaving.
Update Your Software
Running outdated software is a common cause of lag. Check for updates by going to Settings > System > System update. Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi and have at least 50% battery. Install any available updates for Nothing OS and Android.
Also, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device > Updates available to update all your apps. New updates often include performance improvements.
Check for Rogue Apps
A single poorly-coded app can drag down your whole phone's performance. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery usage to see which apps are using the most power in the last 24 hours. If you see an app you don't use often consuming a high percentage, it might be the culprit.
Consider uninstalling it or, at the very least, force stopping it and restricting its background activity.
Manage Background Processes and Notifications
Nothing OS is pretty lightweight, but some features can still run in the background. You can restrict background data for specific apps by going to Settings > Network & internet > Data usage > App data usage.
Also, take a look at your notifications. Constant buzzing from dozens of apps can cause micro-stutters. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Notifications and turn them off for apps where you don't need immediate alerts.
Reduce Animations
Speeding up or turning off the visual animations can make your phone feel instantly snappier. You'll need to enable developer options first. Go to Settings > About phone and tap on Build number seven times.
Then, go back to Settings > System > Developer options. Scroll down to the Drawing section and look for these three settings: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Change each one from 1x to .5x or off completely.
Perform a Network Settings Reset
If your slowdown seems tied to connectivity issues or apps struggling to load data, resetting your network settings can help. This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords and paired Bluetooth devices, so be ready to re-enter them.
Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth and confirm.
Clear the System Cache
Over time, cached data from the system itself can get corrupted. To clear it, power off your CMF Phone 2 Pro. Then, press and hold the Power button and Volume Up button together until the Nothing logo appears.
Use the volume buttons to navigate to "Wipe cache partition" and use the power button to select it. Confirm and then reboot the system. This doesn't delete any personal data.
Consider a Factory Reset
If you've tried everything else and the phone is still unacceptably slow, a factory reset is the nuclear option. This will erase everything and return the phone to its out-of-the-box state.
Make absolutely sure you back up all your important photos, messages, and files first. You can initiate this from Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset).
Since the CMF Phone 2 Pro has a unique modular back, this is also a good time to explore those accessories. A fresh software start paired with the phone's customizable hardware can make it feel brand new again.
