So your Xiaomi 15 won't charge. You plug it in, the screen stays dark, and that battery icon just won't show up. It's a frustrating spot to be in, especially with a brand-new phone. The good news is that this is almost always something you can fix yourself without a trip to a repair shop.
Whether you're dealing with a stubborn USB-C port, a wireless charger that's not cooperating, or a phone that's just completely unresponsive, we'll walk through the solutions. Let's start with the quickest fix and work our way through.
Force Restart Your Xiaomi 15
This should always be your first move. A simple force restart can clear out temporary glitches in HyperOS that might be interfering with the charging system. It takes about 15 seconds and solves the problem more often than you'd think.
For the Xiaomi 15, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds or longer. Keep holding it until you feel a vibration or see the Xiaomi logo appear on the screen. Once it boots back up, plug it in and check for the charging indicator.
Clean the USB-C Charging Port
This is the single most common culprit. That USB-C port is a magnet for pocket lint, dust, and debris. Over time, enough gunk can build up to physically block the cable from making a proper connection.
Grab a flashlight and take a close look inside the port. If you see any packed-in lint, you'll need to carefully remove it. First, power the phone off. Then, use a wooden toothpick or a plastic flosser pick to gently scrape the debris out from the sides. Avoid using anything metal, as it can damage the delicate pins. A quick blast of compressed air can help, too.
After cleaning, try plugging in your cable again. If it still feels loose or won't click in securely, the port itself might be damaged.
Check Your Cable, Adapter, and Power Source
You need to rule out a faulty accessory. The process is simple: swap each component one by one. Start by trying a different USB-C cable, preferably one you know works. Then, try a different wall adapter. Don't forget to test a different wall outlet altogether, as sometimes the outlet itself is the problem.
Since the Xiaomi 15 supports incredibly fast 90W HyperCharge, using the official Xiaomi 90W adapter and cable is your best bet for maximum speed. If your phone came without a charger in the box, any good-quality USB-PD adapter should work, but it might not hit the top speeds.
Also, take off your phone case. Thick cases, especially those with misaligned cutouts, can sometimes prevent the USB-C plug from seating all the way in.
Try Wireless Charging
If your wired charger isn't working, try placing your Xiaomi 15 on a Qi wireless charger. This is a great way to figure out if the problem is with the USB-C port or something else in the phone. The Xiaomi 15 supports up to 50W wireless charging, so with a compatible charger, it can power up very quickly.
Make sure you're using a capable wireless charger and that you remove any thick cases or metal accessories that could block the signal. If wireless charging works perfectly but the USB-C port doesn't, that points directly to a port issue.
Let It Sit on the Charger
If your battery is completely, utterly drained to zero percent, the phone might not show any signs of life immediately. This is a safety feature. Leave it connected to a wall charger (not a slow computer USB port) for at least 30 minutes.
After that time, check for a charging LED if your model has one, or press the power button to see if a battery icon appears on the black screen. If there's still nothing, try the force restart method again while it remains plugged in.
Update Your Software
Software bugs in HyperOS 2 can occasionally mess with power management. Xiaomi releases updates to fix these kinds of issues. If you're able to turn your phone on, it's worth checking for an update.
Go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version and tap "Check for updates." If an update is available, download and install it. I've seen minor updates resolve charging quirks for several users. Make sure your phone is on a charger or has plenty of battery before starting the update.
Check for Overheating
The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip in the Xiaomi 15 is powerful, but it can run hot during sustained gaming or if you're using it in direct sunlight. If the phone gets too hot, it will automatically stop charging to protect the battery.
If your phone feels warm to the touch, take it off the charger, move it to a cooler spot, and let it cool down for 15-20 minutes. Then try charging again. For gaming, enabling Game Turbo mode can help manage performance and heat, potentially avoiding this trigger.
Boot into Safe Mode
A third-party app you installed could be causing trouble in the background, preventing proper charging. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all downloaded apps, letting you see if one of them is the culprit.
To enter Safe Mode on the Xiaomi 15, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." If your phone charges normally in Safe Mode, you'll need to uninstall recently downloaded apps one by one to find the offender.
Consider a Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If all else fails, a factory reset can wipe out deep-seated software corruption. This will erase all your data, so it's an absolute last resort. Make sure you have a recent backup before proceeding.
You can perform the reset through the settings if your phone is on: go to Settings > About phone > Factory reset. If the phone won't turn on, you can often use the hardware keys to enter Recovery Mode. The exact button combo can vary, but it's typically holding Volume Up and Power together when the phone is off. From the Recovery menu, use the volume keys to navigate and the power key to select "Wipe data/factory reset."
