When your Xiaomi 14T Pro goes silent, it's a jarring experience, especially on a phone known for its powerful audio. Sound issues can pop up for a bunch of reasons, from a simple software hiccup in HyperOS to a bit of pocket lint in the speaker grill. The good news is you can almost always fix it yourself with a few straightforward checks.

Check Your Volume and Sound Mode

This sounds obvious, but it's the most common fix. Press the volume up button on the side of your phone a few times. If you see a volume slider on screen but hear nothing, the issue is deeper. Also, swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and make sure the sound mode isn't set to vibrate or silent.

For more control, go into Settings > Sound & vibration. Here, you can adjust the media, ringtone, and alarm volumes individually. Sometimes an app might have its own volume lowered internally, so play some music or a video and use the physical buttons to raise it from there.

Disconnect Bluetooth and Accessories

Your phone might be trying to send audio somewhere else. If you've used wireless earbuds or a speaker recently, your 14T Pro could still be connected to them. Open the Quick Settings panel again and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it off completely, or go to Settings > Bluetooth and disconnect any specific device.

Also, remove any phone case, especially bulky ones that might be covering the bottom-firing speaker grills. While the 14T Pro supports audio over USB-C, a faulty or dirty port can sometimes confuse the system, so unplug any cables too.

Clean the Speaker Grills

Dust and lint love to clog up those tiny speaker holes. Take a close look at the grill along the bottom edge of the phone and the earpiece slit at the top. Use a soft, dry toothbrush or a clean, dry paintbrush to gently sweep away any debris you can see.

You can also try blowing lightly across the grill, but avoid using compressed air cans as the pressure can be too strong. Never poke anything metal like a SIM tool or pin into the grill, as you'll likely damage the speaker behind it.

Restart and Force Reboot Your Phone

A simple restart clears out temporary glitches in HyperOS that could be muting your audio. Just hold the power button, tap restart, and wait for it to boot back up. If the phone is completely unresponsive or the restart doesn't help, you'll need to force a reboot.

For the Xiaomi 14T Pro, press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you feel a vibration and see the phone's logo appear on the screen, then you can let go. This forces a hard reset of the system without deleting any of your data.

Check Do Not Disturb and App-Specific Settings

HyperOS has a few settings that can silence things. Pull down the notification shade twice to see the full Quick Settings tiles and make sure the "Do Not Disturb" tile isn't active. You can also go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Do Not Disturb to check the schedule and rules.

Sometimes, the problem is just with one app. If you have no sound in YouTube or Spotify but your ringtone works, check that app's own settings. For example, in YouTube, tap your profile picture, go to Settings > General, and make sure "Mute sounds" is off. Also, look in Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Notifications to ensure sounds are enabled for that specific app.

Boot Into Safe Mode

If the sound works in Safe Mode, you know a third-party app you installed is causing the conflict. To enter Safe Mode on the Xiaomi 14T Pro, first press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, tap and hold the "Power off" option on your screen.

A prompt will pop up asking if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK". Your phone will restart, and you'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner. Test your sound with the built-in ringtone or a video. To exit, just restart your phone normally.

Clear the Cache Partition

Corrupted system cache can cause all sorts of weird behavior, including audio failure. This process is a bit more involved but doesn't delete your personal files. First, power your phone off completely.

Now, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button at the same time. Hold them until you see the Mi Recovery screen (a phone with a cable icon). Use the volume buttons to scroll down to "Wipe data" and press the power button to select it.

On the next screen, choose "Wipe cache" and confirm. Once it's done, select "Reboot" to restart your phone. This can take a few minutes, so be patient.

Update HyperOS Software

Xiaomi regularly releases updates that fix bugs. A sound issue could be a known bug that's already been patched. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version.

Tap on "Check for updates". If an update is available, I'd recommend connecting to Wi-Fi and plugging in your 120W charger before downloading and installing it. The Dimensity 9300+ chip can get warm during updates, and the fast charger will keep the battery topped up.

Reset All Settings

If you're still not hearing anything, this resets all your system settings (like Wi-Fi passwords, ringtones, and display brightness) back to factory defaults without touching your photos, apps, or messages. It's a good middle step before a full factory reset.

Navigate to Settings > About phone > Factory reset. Here, tap on "Reset all settings" (not "Erase all data"). Confirm your choice, and your phone will reboot. You'll need to reconfigure things like your sound preferences and notification settings afterward.
