You set up a Wyze Cam v4 Routine to turn on the garage light when it detects motion at night. It worked perfectly for a month. Now it just doesn't fire. The light stays off. The camera records clips but nothing triggers the Routine. The Rule is still active in the Wyze app, but it never executes.

The fastest fix that works for most cases: open the Wyze app, tap Account > Rules, find the broken Rule, tap to edit, then tap Save without changing anything. This forces a re-sync to Wyze's cloud and reactivates the trigger. Wait a minute and test the condition again.

Why Wyze Cam v4 Routines Fail

The Wyze Cam v4 runs on the Wyze ecosystem via the standard Wyze app (iOS 14+ or Android 9+). The camera connects only to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and captures up to 2.5K QHD (2560x1440) resolution with color night vision. Routines (called Rules in the app) can fail for several reasons:

  • Rule assigned to the wrong camera: if you have multiple Wyze cams, the Rule might be pointing at a different device.
  • Camera offline or disconnected: the camera can't execute a cloud-based Rule if it's not connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Trigger conditions not met: motion sensitivity too low, schedule time wrong, or sound detection disabled.
  • Cam Plus subscription expired: AI Person Detection requires an active Cam Plus subscription; a Rule that relies on it will silently fail if the sub lapses.
  • SD card full or missing: Rules that record to the local microSD card can't complete if the card is full or not inserted.
  • Conflicting or outdated firmware: a bug in an old firmware release can break Rule execution.

Re-save the Rule to Force a Cloud Sync

Open the Wyze app, tap Account > Rules, then tap the Rule that's failing. Tap the pencil icon to edit, then tap Save at the top. You don't need to change anything. This pushes the Rule definition back to Wyze's servers and re-registers it with your camera. Wait two minutes, then test the trigger.

Check the Camera Is Online

On the Home tab, check if your Wyze Cam v4 shows a live feed. If it says "Offline" or the thumbnail is greyed out, the camera can't receive or execute any Rules. Unplug the USB-C power adapter for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for the blue light to return. If it still shows offline, make sure your phone and camera are on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (Wyze Cam v4 doesn't support 5 GHz).

Verify the Trigger Conditions

Open the Rule and tap each condition. For motion triggers, confirm the motion detection zone and sensitivity are set appropriately. For schedule triggers, check the time and day selection. Sound detection works only if the microphone is enabled (it's always on by default, but verify in the camera's settings). If you're using "person" detection, remember that Cam Plus is required, without it, the camera only detects generic motion.

Is Cam Plus Expired?

AI Person Detection is the most common reason a motion Rule stops working. Open the Wyze app, tap Account > Cam Plus. If your subscription ended, renew it. Rules that rely on person detection will resume working within a few minutes. If you don't want to subscribe, change the trigger to "Motion Detected" instead of "Person Detected."

Update the Camera Firmware

Old firmware can introduce bugs that affect Rules. In the Wyze app, tap the camera, then the gear icon to open Device Settings. Tap Firmware Version. If an update is available, tap Update. The camera will restart and reconnect. After the update, re-save your Rules as described above to refresh the connection.

Check the SD Card and Local Recording

If your Rule triggers a local recording to the microSD card (continuous or event-based) and the card is full or corrupted, the action may fail silently. Go to the camera's Device Settings, tap Local Storage, and check the card's status. If it's full, format it (this erases existing footage) or replace it with a larger card. Wyze Cam v4 supports microSD cards up to 256 GB. Also verify that the card is properly inserted, the slot is on the bottom, near the setup button.

Adjust the Camera's Location and Time Zone

Schedule-based Rules rely on the camera's time zone setting. If you've moved or daylight saving time changed and the camera hasn't synced, the trigger will fire at the wrong time. In the Wyze app, tap Account > Settings > Device Settings > Time Format and make sure the correct time zone is selected. Force a sync by restarting the camera, unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Disable Conflicting Rules

Wyze allows multiple Rules on the same camera, but two Rules with opposing triggers can cancel each other out. For example, a Rule that turns off notifications at night might interfere with a Rule that records motion. Open the Rules list and examine each one. Pause any Rule that might overlap with the failing one. Keep only the essential one, re-save, and test.

Reboot or Factory Reset the Camera

If none of the above works, try a full power cycle first. Unplug the USB-C cable for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. If Rules still don't fire, factory reset the Wyze Cam v4. Locate the setup button on the bottom of the camera. Press and hold it for 10 seconds until you hear a voice prompt saying "Reset complete." This wipes all settings and paired accounts. Set up the camera fresh in the Wyze app, re-insert your microSD card, and recreate your Rules from scratch. Account-level Rules saved in the cloud will reappear once the camera is re-linked.
