You've got the Wyze Cam v4 mounted, plugged in, and ready to go. You open the Wyze app, tap Add Device, scan the QR code, and then nothing. Maybe it spins on "Connecting to Wi-Fi" and eventually fails. Maybe the app can't find the camera at all. This is a common frustration, but it's almost always fixable in a few minutes.

The most frequent culprit is the Wi-Fi network itself. The Wyze Cam v4 only works on the 2.4 GHz band, not 5 GHz. If your phone is connected to a 5 GHz network, or if your router uses band steering and decides your phone is on 5 GHz, the camera's setup hotspot can't talk to your phone. Make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz network before starting the pairing process.

Move Your Phone Within 10 Feet of the Camera

During the initial handshake, the Wyze app uses Bluetooth Low Energy to discover the camera. Bluetooth range is short, and walls kill it fast. If you're in the living room and the camera is in the garage, the pairing will fail silently. Stand right next to the camera with your phone for the entire setup process. Once the camera connects to your Wi-Fi, distance won't matter anymore.

Grant the Wyze App All Required Permissions

The Wyze app needs Location and Bluetooth permissions to detect the camera during setup. Go to your phone's Settings, find the Wyze app, and make sure both are turned on. On iPhone, also enable Local Network access. If any of these are denied, the app will hang at "Searching for device" without giving you a useful error. Check both permissions before trying again.

Reset the Camera Before Pairing Again

If the camera was previously connected to a different Wi-Fi network or account, it has to be fully reset. Flip the camera over and find the small pinhole Setup button on the bottom. Press and hold it for 10 full seconds, then release. The camera will cycle its lights and reboot. After that, it's like brand new and ready to pair through the Wyze app as a first-time device.

Simplify Your Wi-Fi Password Temporarily

Some special characters in Wi-Fi passwords, like percent signs, ampersands, or backslashes, can cause the Wyze app to truncate or mangle the password during the setup handshake. If your Wi-Fi password has any of those, change it temporarily to a simple alphanumeric password (letters and numbers only, no symbols). Complete the camera setup with the simple password, then change your Wi-Fi password back to the original and reconnect the camera through the app's Wi-Fi settings later.

Scan the Correct QR Code

The QR code for setup is printed on the bottom of the camera, right next to the serial number. If you already mounted the camera high up or against the wall, the code might be hard to read. In the Wyze app, you can tap the manual entry option and type in the six-digit code printed near the QR code. That works exactly the same as scanning.

Reinstall the Wyze App

If you've tried everything and the app keeps failing at the same step, the app's local cache might be corrupted. Delete the Wyze app from your phone, restart the phone, then reinstall from the App Store (iOS 14+) or Google Play (Android 9+). Sign in with your account and start the pairing process fresh. This clears any stuck setup state that could be blocking the connection.

Check for a Wyze Service Outage

The Wyze Cam v4 relies on Wyze's cloud servers to register the device during setup. If there's a known outage, no amount of troubleshooting will get the pairing to work. Check Wyze's status page on their website or look on social media for reports of widespread failures. If an outage is confirmed, just wait a few hours and try again once servers are back online.

Try a Different USB-C Power Source

The Wyze Cam v4 comes with a USB-C cable and wall adapter, but not all USB-C chargers deliver consistent 5V/2A power. If you're using a third-party charger or a laptop USB port, the camera might not get enough juice to complete the Wi-Fi handshake. Try the included adapter and cable first. If that doesn't help, swap to another quality 5V/2A USB-C adapter, the kind that comes with a modern phone or tablet, and see if the setup proceeds.

Use Manual Code Entry Instead of QR Scan

If the camera's QR code is scratched, dirty, or just hard for your phone camera to read, the Wyze app will keep failing at the QR scan step. Instead of fighting with it, tap the link that says "Enter code manually" on the scan screen. Type in the six-digit serial number found on the bottom of the camera. The setup will proceed exactly as if the QR had scanned, and you'll avoid the glare or angle problems.
