When your Sony Bravia TV won't connect to the internet, your streaming apps and smart features are useless. Whether it's stuck on "Connecting," shows a weak signal, or connects but has no internet access, these steps will get you back online.

Restart Your Bravia TV

Hold the power button on your TV's side or back panel until it turns off. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, not just the TV. Wait a full 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

This full power cycle clears the TV's temporary memory and resets the network hardware. It's the single most effective fix for a Bravia that suddenly can't see your WiFi.

Restart Your Router and Modem

Unplug both your modem and WiFi router from power. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the modem back in. Once all its lights are stable, plug the router back in and give it another two minutes to fully boot.

If other devices in your home also can't connect, the problem is definitely with your internet equipment. This simple reboot fixes most router-related glitches.

Forget and Re-add Your WiFi Network

On your Bravia, go to Settings > Network & Internet. Select your current WiFi network and choose Forget or Delete.

Now, scan for networks again, select yours, and carefully re-enter the password. This creates a fresh connection profile, which often resolves authentication errors that cause repeated disconnects.

Check Your WiFi Password Carefully

Using the remote to type a complex password is error-prone. Double-check for typos, and pay close attention to uppercase letters and special characters.

If you're unsure, try connecting a phone or laptop with the same password to confirm it's correct. Sometimes a password change on the router is forgotten.

Improve Your WiFi Signal Strength

Bravia TVs, especially models with metal stands or those placed in media cabinets, can have weaker antenna reception. Check the signal strength in the network settings menu.

If it's low, try moving your router closer, or remove physical obstructions. For a more permanent fix, a WiFi extender or mesh system placed near the TV works wonders.

Switch to the 2.4 GHz WiFi Band

If your router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, try connecting your Bravia to the 2.4 GHz one. While 5 GHz is faster, the 2.4 GHz band has much better range and wall penetration.

This is a common fix if the TV is in a different room or on a different floor from the router. The connection will be more stable, even if slightly slower.

Update Your TV's Software

Outdated software is a common cause of network bugs. Go to Settings > System > Software update and select System software update.

If the TV can't connect to WiFi to download the update, you can download it from the Sony support website onto a USB drive. Use the model number from the TV's back sticker to find the right file on sony.com/support.

Change the DNS Server on Your TV

Sometimes, the default DNS from your internet provider is slow or unreliable. In your TV's network settings, find the option to set the IP settings manually.

Change the DNS setting from automatic to manual. Enter 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 (Google's DNS) as the secondary. This can resolve pages that won't load even with a good connection.

Use a Wired Ethernet Connection

For the most reliable connection, plug an Ethernet cable directly from your router into the back of your Bravia TV. This eliminates WiFi interference and signal issues completely.

If your router is too far away, powerline network adapters can carry the internet signal through your home's electrical wiring, giving you a stable wired connection by the TV.

Reset Your TV's Network Settings

If all else fails, resetting the network configuration can wipe out any deep-seated corruption. Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced settings.

Look for an option labeled Reset network settings or similar. This will clear all saved networks and passwords, allowing you to set everything up from scratch as if it were new.

On some Google TV models, you might find this under Settings > System > Reset > Reset network settings. Be aware this will also disconnect any Bluetooth accessories.
