When your Samsung Neo QLED TV has a stunning picture but no sound, it's usually a simple setting or a handshake issue with an external audio device. Let's get your audio back.

Check Your Remote and Volume

Press the volume up button on your Samsung remote. Make sure the mute icon isn't displayed on the screen. If you're using a soundbar or AV receiver remote, check that volume as well, as they can sometimes control different audio outputs.

Verify the Audio Output Source

Press the Home button on your remote, go to Settings > Sound > Sound Output. This is the most crucial step. If you want to use the TV's own speakers, select TV Speaker. If you have a soundbar connected, ensure the correct option like HDMI ARC or your Bluetooth device is selected here.

Perform a Power Cycle

Unplug the TV's power cord from the wall outlet. Wait a full 60 seconds for the capacitors to discharge and the internal systems to reset completely. Plug it back in and turn the TV on. This clears temporary software glitches that can affect the audio processor.

Inspect and Re-seat HDMI Cables

If the sound is missing from a game console, streaming device, or Blu-ray player, the HDMI cable is the first suspect. Unplug the HDMI cable from both the TV and the device, then firmly plug it back in. Try a different HDMI port on your Neo QLED, as some ports may have specific enhancements.

Configure HDMI ARC/eARC Correctly

For soundbars, you must use the HDMI port on your TV labeled HDMI (eARC/ARC). On most Samsung models, this is HDMI 3. Go to Settings > Connection > External Device Manager and make sure Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) is enabled. This allows the TV and soundbar to communicate volume and power commands.

Change the Digital Output Format

Navigate to Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Format. If you're getting silence from a connected system, try changing this setting. PCM is the safest bet for compatibility. Switch to Dolby Digital or DTS only if your sound system supports it.

Troubleshoot Individual Apps

If the sound is only gone on Netflix, Disney+, or another specific app, the issue is isolated. Try playing different content within the app. Go to the app's settings to check for an audio track or language option. You can also try clearing the app's cache from the TV's settings or reinstalling it.

Test the TV's Internal Speakers

Disconnect all external audio devices and go back to Settings > Sound > Sound Output and select TV Speaker. Play some content. If sound works now, you've confirmed the TV is fine and the problem lies with your external audio setup or its connection.

Update Your TV's Software

Outdated software can cause audio dropouts, especially with features like Object Tracking Sound. Press Home, go to Settings > Support > Software Update. Select Update Now. I've seen updates specifically resolve HDMI ARC audio cutouts on recent Samsung models.

Run Self Diagnosis and Reset Audio

Your Neo QLED has a built-in diagnostic tool. Go to Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis and select Sound Test. If the test tone plays, your TV's hardware is likely okay. As a last resort, you can go to Settings > Sound > Expert Settings and select Reset Sound. This returns all audio settings to factory defaults without affecting your other preferences.
