When your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6's Mobile Hotspot stops working, it leaves your laptop, tablet, or other gadgets stranded without internet. Whether the hotspot network isn't appearing, devices can't connect, or the connection keeps dropping, there are several effective fixes to try.
Toggle the Mobile Hotspot Off and On
Open your Settings app and tap Connections. From there, select Mobile Hotspot and Tethering and tap the switch to turn Mobile Hotspot off. Wait about 15 seconds, then tap it again to turn it back on. This quick reset clears any temporary software glitch that might be preventing the service from starting correctly.
Restart Your Galaxy Z Fold 6
A full restart is a reliable first step for many connectivity issues. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Side key simultaneously for about 10 seconds until you see the Samsung logo. This force restart is often more effective than a standard shutdown, as it completely refreshes the phone's network processes.
Verify Your Mobile Data Connection
Your hotspot relies entirely on your phone's cellular data. Swipe down for the Quick Panel and make sure the mobile data icon is active. If you're in an area with a weak signal, the hotspot will be unreliable or not work at all. Also, double-check with your carrier that your specific plan includes hotspot or tethering data, as some plans restrict this feature.
Reset Your Network Settings
If the problem persists, resetting network settings can clear deeper configuration errors. Go to Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings. This will erase all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile network settings. You'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices afterward, but it often resolves stubborn hotspot failures.
Check for a Carrier Settings Update
Your carrier occasionally pushes small updates that can fix connectivity bugs. Go to Settings > Software update and tap Download and install to check for any system updates, which include carrier settings. You can also try going to Settings > About phone > Software information > Service provider software version to see if an update prompt appears.
Forget the Network on the Connecting Device
The issue might be with the device trying to connect. On that laptop or tablet, go into its Wi-Fi settings and find your Z Fold 6's hotspot network. Choose to "Forget" or "Remove" the network. Then, search for available Wi-Fi networks again, select your phone's hotspot, and enter the password fresh. This eliminates any corrupted connection data on the other device's side.
Change Your Hotspot Password
Sometimes, a fresh authentication handshake is needed. On your Z Fold 6, go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot. Tap on the password field and change it to something new, then save. Now, try connecting your other device using this new password. I've seen this simple step resolve connection failures that seemed more complicated.
Try USB or Bluetooth Tethering Instead
If the Wi-Fi hotspot is being difficult, use one of the Z Fold 6's other tethering options. For USB tethering, connect your phone to your computer with a USB-C cable, then go back to the Mobile Hotspot and Tethering menu and enable USB tethering. For Bluetooth, pair your phone with the other device first, then enable Bluetooth tethering from the same menu.
Install the Latest Software Update
Software bugs, including those affecting the hotspot, are commonly patched in updates. Navigate to Settings > Software update and tap Download and install. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has sufficient battery before proceeding. Keeping your Z Fold 6 on the latest version of Android and One UI is one of the best ways to ensure stability.
Contact Your Mobile Carrier
If you've tried everything and the hotspot still won't work, the block might be on your account. Your carrier could have accidentally disabled the feature, or there might be a provisioning error on their end. Give them a call or use their online support chat to verify that Mobile Hotspot is active on your line and that you haven't exceeded any data limits for tethering.
