When your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 shows you in the wrong place or can't lock onto your location, it's more than just an inconvenience. That big, beautiful inner display is perfect for maps, but only if the GPS is working right. The issue can be anything from a quick software hiccup to a deeper setting that needs adjustment.

I'd start with the simplest fixes first. They often clear up the problem in under a minute and don't require any special knowledge.

Refresh Your Location Services

Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full Quick Settings panel. Find the Location icon, which looks like a teardrop-shaped marker. Tap it once to turn it off, wait about ten seconds, and then tap it again to turn it back on.

This forces the GPS radio to restart its connection with the satellites. It's the digital equivalent of unplugging something and plugging it back in.

Perform a Force Restart

If toggling location didn't help, a force restart is your next best move. This clears out any temporary glitches in the system memory that could be affecting all sorts of functions, including GPS.

Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Side (power) button at the same time. Keep holding them for about ten seconds until you see the Samsung logo appear on the screen, then let go. Your phone will boot up normally. This is different from a standard restart and often fixes weird one-off issues.

Check Your Location Mode and Permissions

Android, and Samsung's One UI on top of it, gives you fine control over how your phone determines location. You need to make sure it's set for maximum accuracy. Open the Settings app and tap on "Location."

First, ensure the main switch at the top is on. Then, look for "Location services" or "Location mode." You want this set to "High accuracy." This mode uses GPS satellites, Wi-Fi networks, and mobile networks together to pin down your location as fast and precisely as possible.

While you're in Settings, you should also check app permissions. Go to Settings > Apps, select your mapping app (like Google Maps or Waze), then tap "Permissions." Make sure "Location" is set to "Allow all the time" or at least "Allow only while using the app."

Disable Power Saving Modes

Your Z Fold 6 has aggressive power saving features to protect battery life on its two screens. These features often limit background processes, including frequent GPS checks. Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery.

See if any power saving mode is enabled, like "Power saving" or "Adaptive power saving." Turn it off completely. For the most accurate GPS, you need the phone running at full performance, even if it uses a bit more battery temporarily.

Reset Your Network Connections

Sometimes the issue isn't with GPS itself, but with the other networks that help with initial location finding. A quick way to reset all wireless radios is to use Airplane Mode. Swipe down for Quick Settings and tap the Airplane Mode icon.

Wait 15 full seconds, then tap it again to turn Airplane Mode off. This cycles the GPS, cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth antennas off and on, which can clear up connection conflicts.

Update Your Apps and Software

An outdated version of Google Maps or your phone's operating system can have bugs that mess with location services. Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to "Manage apps & device." Tap "Updates available" to see if your mapping apps need an update.

Next, check for a system update. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Samsung and Google regularly release updates that fix various issues, including GPS performance.

Clear the App Cache and Data

If a specific app is having trouble, its stored data might be corrupted. Don't worry, clearing the cache is safe and won't delete your saved places. Go to Settings > Apps, find your navigation app, and tap on it.

Tap "Storage," then hit "Clear cache." Try the app again. If the problem is really stubborn, you can go back and tap "Clear data." Just be aware this will reset the app to its default state, so you'll need to log back in and reset any preferences.

Consider Your Physical Environment

The unique design of the Z Fold 6 means you might hold it differently than a regular phone. Try unfolding it to use the inner display when getting a GPS lock. The larger size might help with antenna reception.

GPS signals are line-of-sight and struggle indoors, in dense urban areas with tall buildings, or under heavy tree cover. For the best accuracy, step outside or near a window with a clear view of the sky. Also, remove any very thick or metal-heavy phone cases, as they can interfere with the antenna.

Boot Into Safe Mode

This step checks if a third-party app you installed is causing the problem. Safe Mode temporarily disables all apps you downloaded. To enter it, press and hold the Side key until the power menu appears.

Then, tap and hold the "Power off" icon on your screen until you see a prompt to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap it. Once the phone restarts, you'll see "Safe mode" in the bottom corner. Open your maps app and test the GPS.

If it works perfectly in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is the culprit. Restart your phone normally to exit Safe Mode, and try uninstalling recent apps one by one to find the offender.

Clear the System Cache Partition

This is a deeper clean than just clearing an app's cache. It wipes temporary system files that can sometimes become corrupted. First, power your Z Fold 6 completely off. Connect it to your computer with a USB-C cable.

Now, press and hold both the Volume Up button and the Side key. When you see the Samsung logo, release only the Side key but keep holding Volume Up. You'll enter the recovery menu. Use the volume buttons to highlight "Wipe cache partition" and press the Side key to select it. Confirm, then select "Reboot system now."
