When the flashlight on your Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is grayed out in the quick settings panel, it's a surprisingly common hiccup. The button is just unresponsive, and you're left in the dark. Let's get that LED working again.

Close the Camera App

The camera and flashlight share the same LED hardware. If the Camera app is open, even in the background, the system reserves the flash and grays out the flashlight toggle. Swipe up from the bottom to see your recent apps and swipe the Camera app card away to close it. The flashlight icon should light back up instantly.

Force Restart Your Phone

A quick force restart clears out the temporary software glitch that's likely causing the issue. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Side (power) button together for about 10 seconds. Keep holding until you see the Samsung logo appear, then let go. This is the go-to fix for most minor One UI quirks.

Check for an Overheating Phone

The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip in the S25 Ultra is powerful but can get warm under heavy loads. As a safety measure, Android will disable features like the flashlight if the phone gets too hot. If your phone feels warm, set it down in a cooler spot for 10-15 minutes. Once it cools down, the flashlight function should return.

Toggle Light Performance Mode

While Light performance mode saves battery, it can sometimes interfere with system responsiveness. Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Performance profile. Try switching to Standard or even Enhanced processing for a moment, then test the flashlight. You can always switch the profile back afterward.

Use Google Assistant or Bixby

Try activating the flashlight with your voice. Say "Hey Google, turn on the flashlight" or "Hi Bixby, turn on the torch." If the voice assistant can turn it on but the quick settings button remains grayed out, it confirms a UI or software state issue. A simple restart, as mentioned earlier, will almost always resolve this.

Adjust the Flashlight Brightness

You might not be able to see the light if it's set too dim. Instead of just tapping the flashlight icon, press and hold it in your quick settings panel. A small menu should pop up with a brightness slider. Slide it all the way to the right to the brightest setting and see if the light turns on.

Reset Your Quick Settings Layout

Sometimes the toggle itself gets buggy. You can reset your quick settings panel to its default layout. Go to Settings > Notifications > Quick panel. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Reset. This won't delete any data, but you'll need to re-customize your toggles afterward.

Update Your Software

Samsung regularly releases updates that fix bugs, including ones related to hardware control. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If an update is available, install it. I've seen minor point updates specifically address issues with grayed-out system functions on past Galaxy models.

Test the Camera Flash

If all else fails, you need to check the hardware. Open your Camera app and switch to a photo mode like Photo or Portrait. Take a picture in a dark room with the flash set to On. If the camera flash doesn't fire either, the LED hardware itself may have failed. This would require a service visit to diagnose and repair.
