When your Samsung Galaxy S25+ refuses to connect to your computer, it stops you from transferring photos, backing up files, or even just charging efficiently. This is a common hiccup that can usually be sorted out with a few targeted checks.

The issue often comes down to something simple like a worn-out cable, a setting on your phone, or a driver that needs updating on your PC. I'd start with the most obvious fixes first, as they solve the problem more often than not.

Check Your USB-C Cable and Port

Grab a different USB-C cable, preferably the one that came with your S25+ or another high-quality one. Cheap or damaged cables are the single biggest reason for connection failures. Make sure both ends are plugged in firmly.

Also, try a different USB port on your computer. The port on the front of your PC might not provide enough power or data stability compared to one directly on the motherboard at the back.

Take a close look at the USB-C port on your S25+. Lint and pocket debris can get packed in there, blocking the connection. Use a flashlight and a dry, soft-bristled brush or a plastic toothpick to gently clear it out.

Restart Your Phone and Computer

A quick reboot can clear out temporary software glitches on both devices. Restart your Windows PC or Mac completely. For your Galaxy S25+, perform a force restart by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Side button together for about 10 seconds until you see the Samsung logo.

After both devices are back up, try connecting them again with your cable. This simple step resolves a surprising number of one-off connection problems.

Check the USB Connection Prompt on Your Phone

When you plug in your S25+, a notification should appear. If you see "Charging only" or "Connected for charging," tap it. You need to change this to "Transfer files" or "Android Auto" for your computer to see the phone's storage.

If no prompt appears at all, unlock your phone and pull down the notification shade. The USB connection notification might be hiding there, waiting for you to select the correct mode.

Update Your Samsung USB Drivers on Windows

Outdated or missing drivers on your Windows PC are a major roadblock. The easiest way to fix this is to let Windows update itself. Connect your phone, press the Windows key + X, and select Device Manager.

Look under "Portable Devices" or "Other Devices" for your phone (it might show as an unknown device). Right-click it and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers. Windows will often find and install the right one.

For a more thorough fix, download the official Samsung Android USB Driver directly from Samsung's developer website and install it on your PC. This ensures you have the latest compatible drivers for your S25+.

Update Your Phone's Software

Software bugs in early versions of Android 15 or One UI 7 can sometimes interfere with USB connectivity. Go to your phone's Settings > Software update and tap Download and install.

Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has sufficient battery. Installing the latest update can patch known issues that might be causing your connection trouble.

Enable Developer Options and USB Debugging

This is a useful advanced step that gives your computer more direct access. First, enable Developer Options by going to Settings > About phone and tapping "Software information." Tap Build number seven times until you see a message saying you're now a developer.

Go back to the main Settings menu, find and open Developer options, and then toggle on USB debugging. You might get a security prompt on your phone when you connect it; just tap "Allow."

Try a Different Computer or Use Smart Switch

To rule out a problem with your primary computer, try connecting your S25+ to a different laptop or desktop. If it works there, the issue is isolated to your main PC's software or hardware.

You can also use Samsung's official transfer tool, Smart Switch. Install the Smart Switch desktop app on your computer from Samsung's website. Sometimes, launching this app can help establish a connection where Windows Explorer fails.

Reset Network and USB Settings on Your Phone

If you're still stuck, a settings reset can help. This won't delete your personal data. Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings.

This resets Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile networks. For a more targeted USB reset, go to Settings > Apps, tap the three-dot menu, select "Show system apps," find "USB settings," and then tap Storage > Clear cache.
