When your headphones stop working with your Redmi Note 14 Pro, it can be incredibly frustrating. Whether you're using wired earbuds or a Bluetooth pair, the audio might cut out, sound distorted, or not play at all. The good news is that most headphone problems have a simple fix.
A browser based left and right audio test makes this easy to confirm. If both sides play test tones correctly there, the headphones are fine and the problem is in the device or app.
Restart Your Phone First
This is the quickest fix for a lot of weird audio glitches. Just press and hold the power button on the side of your Redmi Note 14 Pro for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the phone's screen go black and the Xiaomi logo reappear. This force restart clears out temporary software bugs that can mess with audio routing.
Check the Physical Connection
If you're using wired headphones, make sure they're plugged all the way into the USB-C port. Give the plug a firm push to ensure it's seated properly. Try wiggling the plug slightly while audio is playing to see if the connection is loose. It's also a good idea to test your headphones on another device to rule them out as the problem.
Clean the USB-C Port
Lint and pocket debris love to get packed into the charging port. This can block your headphone plug from making a solid connection. Turn off your phone first for safety. Then, use a wooden toothpick or a soft-bristled brush to gently scrape out any gunk you see. A can of compressed air can also help blow out loose particles.
Forget and Re-Pair Your Bluetooth Headphones
Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Find your headphones in the list of paired devices and tap the gear icon next to them. Tap Unpair or Forget. Now, put your headphones back into pairing mode (usually by holding a button) and select them from the available devices list on your phone. This creates a fresh, clean connection.
Check Your Volume and Audio Output
Press the volume up button on your phone to make sure the media volume isn't turned all the way down. Also, pull down the notification shade and tap the media player tile. Make sure the output is set to your headphones and not the phone's speaker. Sometimes audio gets sent to the wrong place after a call.
Toggle Bluetooth Off and On
Head to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the toggle to turn it off. Wait about 10 seconds, then turn it back on. This simple refresh of the Bluetooth radio can often kickstart a stubborn connection or fix choppy audio on your wireless headphones.
Check for a Stuck Headphone Mode
Sometimes the phone's software gets confused and thinks headphones are plugged in when they aren't. You might see a headphone icon in the status bar. The first thing to try is plugging in and unplugging your wired headphones a few times. If that doesn't work, the force restart mentioned earlier is your next best step to clear the error.
Update Your Phone's Software
Xiaomi regularly releases updates for HyperOS that fix bugs, including audio and Bluetooth issues. Go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version. Tap "Check for updates" and install any that are available. I've seen updates resolve specific headphone compatibility problems on newer models.
Check App-Specific Audio Settings
If your headphones work in some apps but not others, the problem might be with the app itself. For example, check the in-app settings for music or video streaming services. Make sure nothing is set to play through the phone's speaker by default. Also, try force-stopping the problematic app and reopening it.
Reset All Network Settings
If Bluetooth problems keep coming back, this reset can help. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Reset phone. Here, tap Reset network settings. This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings, so you'll need to reconnect your headphones and Wi-Fi networks afterward. It often clears deep-seated connection glitches.
