If the fingerprint scanner on your Redmi Note 14 Pro has suddenly stopped responding, it can lock you out of your phone and apps. This is a common hiccup, but it's usually something you can fix yourself without a trip to a service center.

Let's start with the quickest fix, which often does the trick. Press and hold the power button on the side of your phone for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the Redmi or Xiaomi logo appear on the screen, which forces a full restart. This clears any temporary software glitch that might be confusing the sensor.

Clean the Screen and Your Finger

The optical fingerprint sensor under your Redmi Note 14 Pro's screen needs a clear view. Smudges, oil, or moisture on the screen or your finger are the most common culprits. Wipe the lower part of your screen with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.

Make sure your finger is completely dry and clean, too. If you've just washed your hands, dry them thoroughly. A little bit of lotion or sweat can be enough to block the scan.

Check Your Screen Protector

While the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is tough, a screen protector is still a good idea. However, not all protectors play nice with in-display fingerprint sensors. If you recently applied a new, thick, or tempered glass protector, it might be interfering.

Try removing the protector temporarily to see if the scanner starts working again. If it does, you'll need to look for a screen protector specifically marketed as compatible with optical fingerprint sensors. Re-register your fingerprints after applying the new one.

Re-register Your Fingerprint

Sometimes the stored fingerprint data gets corrupted. The simplest solution is to delete the old print and add it again. Go to Settings > Password & security > Fingerprint unlock.

Enter your PIN or password, tap on the fingerprint that's failing, and select Delete. Then, tap Add fingerprint and follow the prompts. Press your finger at different angles during enrollment so the phone gets a complete picture.

Update Your Phone's Software

Outdated software can have bugs that affect hardware like the fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi regularly releases updates through HyperOS to fix these kinds of issues. Go to Settings > About phone > System update.

Tap Check for updates and install any available update. I've seen minor updates specifically address biometric performance. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has at least a 50% charge before starting.

Check for App Conflicts in Safe Mode

A recently installed third-party app could be causing a conflict. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all downloaded apps. Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then long-press the Power off option.

Tap OK when prompted to reboot to Safe Mode. If the fingerprint scanner works perfectly here, you know a downloaded app is the problem. Restart normally and try uninstalling apps one by one, starting with the most recent.

Clear the System Cache Partition

This clears temporary system files that can sometimes become corrupted. First, power off your Redmi Note 14 Pro completely. Once it's off, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button at the same time.

Release the buttons when you see the Mi Recovery menu. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe data and press the power button to select. Then, choose Wipe cache and confirm. Finally, select Reboot to restart your phone normally.

Disable Battery Saver and High-Performance Mode

Extreme power management settings can sometimes limit background processes for sensors. Go to Settings > Battery. Make sure Power saving mode is turned off.

Also, check if you have Performance mode enabled, as this can sometimes cause overheating, which may affect sensor stability. Try setting it to Balanced and see if the scanner becomes more reliable.

Review Your Fingerprint Unlock Settings

There are a couple of settings in HyperOS that can impact how the scanner behaves. Go back to Settings > Password & security > Fingerprint unlock. Look for an option called Show fingerprint icon when screen is off and make sure it's enabled.

Also, check the Fingerprint recognition animation setting. Some users have reported that turning this animation off can slightly improve recognition speed and consistency on Xiaomi phones.

Reset All Settings as a Last Resort

If you're still stuck, a settings reset can help without deleting your personal data. This will revert all your system settings (like Wi-Fi passwords, ringtones, and display settings) back to default. Go to Settings > About phone > Factory reset.

Choose Reset all settings and enter your security PIN. After the phone reboots, you'll need to reconfigure your preferences, but your apps, photos, and messages will remain. Set up your fingerprint again after the reset.
