When the speaker on your Redmi Note 13 Pro goes silent, it can feel like you're suddenly cut off from everything. Whether it's calls, videos, or notifications, losing sound is a major disruption. The good news is that most audio problems on this phone are caused by simple software settings or minor glitches that you can fix yourself in a few minutes.

Check Your Volume and Sound Mode

This is always the first place to look. The Redmi Note 13 Pro has separate volume sliders for ringtone, media, and alarms, and it's easy for one to get turned down accidentally. While playing a video or song, press the volume up button on the side of the phone to ensure media volume isn't muted.

Next, pull down the notification shade twice to see the full quick settings panel. Look for the sound mode tile. Make sure it's set to "Sound" and not "Vibrate" or "Silent." You can also long-press this tile to go directly to the sound settings.

Disconnect Bluetooth and Accessories

If your phone is connected to a Bluetooth speaker, headphones, or even a car stereo, it will route all audio there by default. Swipe down and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it off, or go to Settings > Bluetooth and disconnect any active devices.

Also, remove any phone case that might be covering the bottom-firing speaker grille. I've seen cases with poor cutouts that can muffle or completely block the sound. It's a quick check that can save you a lot of time.

Clean the Speaker Grille

The speaker on the Redmi Note 13 Pro is a thin slit along the bottom edge. Over time, pocket lint, dust, and other debris can get packed in there, physically blocking the sound. Shine a flashlight on it to see if there's any visible gunk.

Use a soft, dry toothbrush or a clean, dry paintbrush to gently sweep across the grille. You can also use a can of compressed air, but hold it upright and use very short bursts to avoid pushing moisture into the phone. Never use a pin or SIM ejector tool, as you can easily damage the speaker diaphragm.

Review Do Not Disturb and App-Specific Settings

MIUI has a fairly aggressive Do Not Disturb (DND) mode that can silence everything. Go to Settings > Notifications & status bar > Do Not Disturb. Make sure it's toggled off, or check the schedule if you have one set.

Sometimes, the issue is with just one app. Open the app that isn't producing sound, like YouTube or your music player, and start playing something. Then, press the volume up button. A small settings gear should appear next to the volume slider. Tap it to see if that specific app's volume has been turned down independently of the system.

Perform a Force Restart

A simple force restart clears the phone's temporary memory and can fix a stuck audio process. On the Redmi Note 13 Pro, you just need to press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it even after you feel a vibration or see the screen go black.

Hold it until you see the Redmi or POCO logo appear, then release. This forces a full reboot and is different from a normal restart. It's my go-to second step after checking the volume.

Check for Software Updates

Xiaomi regularly releases MIUI updates that fix bugs, including audio-related ones. An update could have introduced a glitch, or a new update might contain the fix you need. Go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version.

Tap the "Check for updates" button. If an update is available, I'd recommend connecting to Wi-Fi and plugging in your 67W charger before downloading and installing it. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 can get warm during this process, and the fast charger will keep the battery topped up.

Boot Into Safe Mode to Find a Bad App

If the sound works in Safe Mode, you know a third-party app you installed is causing the conflict. To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, long-press the "Power off" option on your screen.

A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." Your phone will restart, and you'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner. Test your sound with the built-in music app or a YouTube video. If it works, you'll need to uninstall recently downloaded apps one by one to find the culprit.

To exit Safe Mode, just perform a normal restart.

Reset All Sound and App Preferences

This resets all your sound, network, and app permission settings back to default without touching your personal data like photos or messages. It's a strong step before considering a full factory reset. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset.

Tap on "Reset settings." You'll see an option to reset all settings, including sounds, wallpaper, and network connections. Confirm the reset. Your phone will reboot, and you'll need to reconfigure your Wi-Fi, ringtones, and similar preferences, but it often clears up persistent software hiccups.

Clear the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode

This clears temporary system files that can become corrupted. First, power off your Redmi Note 13 Pro completely. Once it's off, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button at the same time.

Release the buttons when you see the MIUI recovery screen. Use the volume buttons to navigate to the "Wipe data" option. Press the power button to select it. On the next screen, choose "Wipe cache" instead of "Wipe all data." Confirm the action. Once it's done, select "Reboot" to restart your phone normally.
