A black screen on your Redmi Note 13 Pro can feel like a disaster, but it's often a temporary software crash or a drained battery. The phone might still be running in the background, just with an unresponsive display. Let's get it working again.

Force Restart Your Phone

This is almost always the first step you should take. Press and hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds. Don't let go when you feel the vibration, keep holding until you see the Redmi or POCO logo appear on the screen. This forces a hard reboot and can clear out many software glitches causing the black screen.

Charge It with the Right Adapter

Your phone's 67W fast charging is great, but a completely dead battery will show nothing. Grab the original 67W charger and USB-C cable that came in the box. Plug it in and leave it for at least 20 minutes. Sometimes, if the battery is deeply discharged, it takes a while before any charging indicator lights up. I'd avoid using a slow, old charger for this initial test.

If you see no sign of life after 30 minutes, try a different cable and power adapter. A faulty cable is a common culprit. The 67W charging can generate noticeable heat, which is normal, but if the phone or charger feels excessively hot, unplug it and let it cool down first.

Check for a Dim or Off Screen

It sounds simple, but sometimes the screen brightness is just turned all the way down. In a dark room, this can look like a black screen. Try pressing the power button and then carefully swiping your finger down from the top of the display. If you feel a vibration or hear a sound, the screen is on but too dim to see.

You can also try asking Google Assistant. Say "Hey Google, turn up the brightness to maximum." If the phone responds, you'll know it's just a display setting issue and not a hardware failure.

Look for Physical or Water Damage

Inspect the screen closely for any new cracks, dark splotches, or lines you don't remember seeing. If the phone vibrates for notifications, rings for calls, or the LED notification light blinks, the device is on but the display hardware is likely damaged. A drop can disconnect the internal ribbon cable for the screen.

If the phone got wet, power it off immediately if you can. Let it dry completely in a warm, dry place for at least 48 hours. Don't use a hairdryer or put it in rice, as both can push debris inside or cause static damage. Moisture under the screen or in the connectors can cause a temporary black screen.

Boot into Safe Mode

A misbehaving third-party app can sometimes cause the system to crash to a black screen. You can boot into Safe Mode to disable all those apps. First, force restart the phone as described earlier. As soon as you see the Redmi logo appear, press and hold the Volume Down button until the animation finishes and you see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner.

If the screen works in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is the problem. You can then go to Settings and start uninstalling recent apps one by one until the issue stops. Pay attention to any launchers, lock screen apps, or heavy games you installed recently.

Try Recovery Mode

If the phone is stuck in a boot loop or a serious system crash, Recovery Mode can help. Make sure the phone is powered off. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button together. When the Redmi logo appears, release only the Power button but keep holding Volume Up until you see the Recovery Mode menu.

Use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select. You can try Wipe cache partition first, which clears temporary system files without touching your personal data. If that doesn't work, the last resort here is Wipe data/factory reset, which will erase everything on the phone.

Connect to a PC for a Flash

For a deeply corrupted system, you may need to reflash the firmware using a computer. This requires Xiaomi's official Mi Flash Tool and the correct ROM file for your specific Redmi Note 13 Pro model. The process is more technical and carries a risk of bricking the phone if done incorrectly.

You'll need to boot the phone into Fastboot mode by holding Power and Volume Down together. If the screen shows a little robot with "Fastboot" text, your computer might be able to communicate with it using the proper drivers and tools. I'd consider this a last-ditch effort before seeking repair.

Consider a Software Glitch

The Redmi Note 13 Pro runs MIUI on top of Android. Sometimes, an incomplete update or a bug in the system software, especially with the aggressive background task management, can cause freezes. If the problem started after a recent MIUI update, it's likely a software issue. The solutions above, particularly the force restart or a factory reset from Recovery Mode, are your best bets.

Evaluate Hardware Failure

If the phone shows absolutely no signs of life, no vibration, no charging LED, no response to any button holds even after a long charge, the problem could be hardware. This could be a failed display, a disconnected internal flex cable, or a problem with the motherboard. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is generally reliable, but any chip can fail.

In this case, the next step is a professional diagnosis. Since your phone has no wireless charging, that's one less component to worry about. Contact Xiaomi support or visit an authorized service center to have the internal hardware checked.
