If your Realme GT 7 Pro's fingerprint unlock is failing, it's a major roadblock to using your phone. The good news is that most of the time, this is a software hiccup or a simple setup issue that you can fix yourself. Let's get it working again.
Clean the Screen and Your Finger
This is the most common fix. The GT 7 Pro uses an optical under-display sensor, which means it needs a perfectly clean screen surface to see your fingerprint clearly. Any smudges, grease, or moisture can completely block the scan.
Grab a microfiber cloth and thoroughly wipe the area where the fingerprint icon appears. Make sure your own finger is clean and dry, too. I've seen this simple step fix the issue more often than not, especially if you've just eaten or applied lotion.
Remove and Re-register Your Fingerprint
If cleaning doesn't work, the next step is to delete your old fingerprint and teach the phone your print again. Sometimes the initial scan wasn't perfect, or your finger placement has changed slightly over time.
Head to Settings > Password & Security > Fingerprint. Enter your PIN or password, then tap on the fingerprint you're having trouble with and select Delete. Now, tap Add Fingerprint and follow the prompts carefully.
When registering, press your finger down firmly and at different angles. The phone will prompt you to lift and reposition slightly to capture the edges. Take your time with this process for a more reliable scan later.
Check Your Screen Protector
Not all screen protectors play nice with under-display fingerprint sensors. If you recently installed a new one, especially a thick tempered glass protector, it could be the culprit.
Try removing the protector temporarily and see if the fingerprint reader starts working. If it does, you'll need to look for a protector specifically marketed as "fingerprint compatible" or re-register your prints after the new protector is installed. Some protectors require you to enable a "screen protector mode" in the fingerprint settings for better sensitivity.
Restart Your Phone
A quick restart can clear out temporary glitches in Realme UI that might be affecting the biometric service. Just press and hold the power button until you see the power menu, then tap restart.
If the phone is completely unresponsive, you can force a restart by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds until the screen goes black and the Realme logo reappears. This is a soft reset that won't delete any of your data.
Update Your Software
Outdated software can have bugs that break features like the fingerprint sensor. Realme frequently releases updates that include stability improvements and bug fixes.
Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update and tap on "Check for Updates." If an update is available, install it. It's a good idea to plug in your included 120W charger during the update process, as the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip can make the update run a bit warm.
Increase Touch Sensitivity
Realme UI has a setting specifically to help with screen protectors. Enabling it can give the fingerprint sensor a boost. Navigate to Settings > Additional Settings > Screen & Brightness.
Look for an option called "Increase Touch Sensitivity" or "High Touch Sensitivity" and turn it on. After enabling it, you might want to re-register your fingerprints one more time for the best results.
Clear the System Cache
Corrupted cache files can interfere with system processes, including the fingerprint service. Clearing this cache is safe and won't delete your personal data like photos or messages.
Turn off your GT 7 Pro completely. Then, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons together. When the Realme recovery screen appears, use the volume buttons to navigate to "Wipe data" and press the power button to select it.
Choose "Wipe cache" and confirm. Once it's done, select "Reboot" to restart your phone normally. This process can take a minute or two.
Check for App Conflicts in Safe Mode
A third-party app you installed could be causing a conflict. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all downloaded apps, letting you see if one of them is the problem.
Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, tap and hold the "Power off" icon on your screen until you see a prompt to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK."
If the fingerprint sensor works perfectly in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is to blame. You'll need to restart normally and then uninstall apps one by one, starting with the most recently installed or any security/launcher apps, to find the culprit.
Review Your Fingerprint Settings
Take a moment to go through the fingerprint settings menu thoroughly. Go to Settings > Password & Security > Fingerprint.
Make sure "Unlock with fingerprint" is toggled on. Also, check for any "Smart unlock" or similar features that might be trying to bypass the lock screen under certain conditions, as they can sometimes behave unpredictably.
Register Multiple Fingerprints
For better reliability, register the same finger more than once. You can add up to five fingerprints on the GT 7 Pro. Try adding your primary thumb or index finger as two separate entries.
This gives the sensor more data points to recognize. Also, register a fingerprint from your other hand as a backup. Your fingers can change slightly due to dry skin, minor cuts, or just daily wear, so having multiple scans helps.
If you've worked through all these steps and the sensor is still completely dead, not even attempting to scan, there might be a hardware issue. The sensor is built into the display assembly. Before considering a repair, one last step is to back up your data and perform a factory reset through the settings menu, which will rule out any deep-seated software corruption.
