Seeing the "Settings keeps stopping" error pop up on your POCO X7 Pro can really stop you in your tracks. It usually means the app has run into corrupted data or a conflict with another service. Let's get it working again.

Force Restart Your POCO X7 Pro

This is the quickest thing to try and often clears up temporary glitches. Just press and hold the power button on the side of your phone for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the POCO or HyperOS logo appear on the screen, then let go.

Your phone will boot up fresh. If the Settings app still crashes when you try to open it, move on to the next step.

Clear the Settings App Cache

Cache files help apps load faster, but they can get corrupted. Clearing them for the Settings app is a safe first fix that won't delete your personal data.

Since you can't open the main Settings app, you'll need to access this through your phone's App info menu. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the notification shade, then tap the gear icon in the top right. If that crashes, long-press on the Settings app icon on your home screen or app drawer.

Tap "App info". On the App info screen, tap on "Storage & cache". Then, tap the "Clear cache" button. Go back and try opening Settings again.

Force Stop the Settings App

If clearing the cache didn't help, force stopping the app can shut down any stuck processes. From the same App info screen for the Settings app, you'll see a "Force stop" button.

Tap it and confirm. The app will completely close. You can then try launching it again from your home screen. I've found this works for a lot of the random app crashes on HyperOS.

Check for a System Update

An outdated version of HyperOS can have bugs that cause system apps to misbehave. Xiaomi and POCO regularly release updates with stability fixes.

You can try to get to the updater through the notification shade shortcut. If that fails, you can also try opening the "Updater" app directly from your app drawer. Tap "Check for updates" and install any that are available.

Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has a decent charge, preferably above 50%, before updating. After it installs and reboots, check if the problem is gone.

Manage Google Play Services

Google Play Services works in the background to help apps communicate with Android. If it has an issue, it can make system apps like Settings unstable.

Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Tap the search icon and type "Google Play Services". Select it from the list. On its App info page, tap "Force stop", then tap "Storage & cache".

Tap "Clear cache" here first. If the problem persists, you can go back and tap "Clear data". Don't worry, this will rebuild itself, but you may need to sign back into some Google services briefly.

Boot into Safe Mode

This starts your POCO X7 Pro with all third-party apps disabled. If Settings works fine in Safe Mode, then a recently installed app is likely causing the conflict.

To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, long-press the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK".

If Settings doesn't crash in Safe Mode, restart your phone normally to exit. Then, try uninstalling apps you installed just before the problem started, one by one, to find the culprit.

Reset App Preferences

This resets all your app-related settings, like permissions, default apps, and background restrictions, back to their original defaults. It won't delete any app data or personal files.

Navigate to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select "Reset app preferences". Confirm your choice.

Your phone will apply the reset. This can resolve conflicts where a permission change or restriction is preventing the Settings app from functioning correctly.

Perform a Factory Reset

If nothing else has worked, a factory reset is the final step to rule out deep-seated software corruption. This will erase everything on your phone, so backing up your photos, contacts, and important files is absolutely essential first.

Since the main Settings may be inaccessible, you can often trigger a reset from the recovery menu. Turn off your phone completely. Then, press and hold the Power button and Volume Up button together until the POCO logo appears.

Use the volume buttons to navigate to "Wipe data" and select it with the power button. Follow the prompts to confirm. After the reset, set up your phone as new to see if the issue is resolved.
