If your POCO X7 Pro's fingerprint scanner suddenly stops recognizing you, it can lock you out of your phone and apps. This is a common hiccup, especially after a software update or when your hands aren't perfectly clean. The good news is, it's usually a quick software fix.

Start With a Simple Restart

Before you try anything else, give your phone a fresh start. A force restart clears out any temporary glitches that might be affecting the sensor. Just press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds until you see the POCO logo appear on the screen.

This is often the fastest way to get things working again. Once it boots up, try unlocking with your fingerprint.

Clean Your Finger and the Sensor

This sounds obvious, but it's the most common culprit. The optical fingerprint sensor under the screen needs a clear view of your fingertip. Make sure your finger is clean, dry, and free of lotion, grease, or sweat.

Also, give your screen a gentle wipe with a soft, dry microfiber cloth right over the sensor area. Any smudges, dirt, or moisture on the display can block the sensor's light and prevent a good read.

Check Your Screen Protector

A poorly applied or low-quality screen protector is a frequent cause of fingerprint issues on the X7 Pro. If the protector is too thick, has air bubbles, or isn't perfectly aligned, it can interfere with the sensor's accuracy.

Try removing the screen protector temporarily to see if the fingerprint reader starts working reliably again. If it does, you'll need to look for a protector specifically marketed as compatible with under-display fingerprint sensors.

Re-register Your Fingerprint

If the sensor is working but just not recognizing you, deleting and re-adding your fingerprint often solves it. This gives the system a fresh, clean scan to work with.

Go to Settings > Password & security > Fingerprint unlock. Enter your PIN or password, tap on the fingerprint you're having trouble with, and select Delete. Then, tap Add fingerprint and follow the prompts carefully.

When you re-register, make sure to press your finger at different angles and cover the edges as the animation guides you. I've found that registering the same finger twice can also improve success rates.

Update Your Software

Outdated software can have bugs that break biometric features. Xiaomi and POCO regularly release updates for HyperOS that include fixes for issues just like this.

Head to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version and tap on the icon with the three dots in the top right. Select Download latest update and install anything that's available. After the update completes, restart your phone and test the sensor.

Check for App Conflicts in Safe Mode

Sometimes, a recently installed third-party app can cause system conflicts that affect hardware features like the fingerprint sensor. Booting into Safe Mode disables all those apps so you can test.

Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, long-press the Power off option until you see a prompt to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap OK.

If the fingerprint scanner works perfectly in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is the problem. Restart normally and try uninstalling apps you installed just before the problem started.

Improve Touch Sensitivity

HyperOS has a setting specifically for screen sensitivity, which can help the fingerprint sensor read through certain screen protectors. It's worth checking if this is enabled.

Navigate to Settings > Additional settings > Touch sensitivity. Make sure the toggle is turned on. This won't fix a broken sensor, but it can improve reliability with some screen protectors.

Clear the System Cache

Corrupted system cache data can cause all sorts of strange behavior. Clearing it is a safe troubleshooting step that doesn't delete your personal data.

First, power off your POCO X7 Pro completely. Then, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button together until the POCO/Recovery logo appears. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe data and press the power button to select it.

Choose Wipe cache and confirm. Once it's done, select Reboot. This process can take a minute or two.

Review Your Fingerprint Unlock Settings

There are a couple of settings within the fingerprint menu that could be causing issues. Go back to Settings > Password & security > Fingerprint unlock.

Make sure Unlock with fingerprint is toggled on. You can also try toggling Show fingerprint icon when screen is off off and then back on. Sometimes, resetting these options can jog the system back to normal operation.

Also, if you have any battery saver modes or extreme performance profiles enabled through Game Turbo, try disabling them temporarily. These modes can sometimes limit background processes that the sensor relies on.
