Slow internet on your POCO F6 can really hold you back, especially when you're trying to stream or game. The good news is that a lot of the slowdown is often due to settings or software that you can easily tweak yourself.
Since the POCO F6 runs on HyperOS (based on Android 14), many of the fixes are found in the same places, but I'll walk you through the exact steps for your phone.
Toggle Airplane Mode On and Off
This is the quickest fix and often the most effective. It forces your phone to reconnect to the cellular network from scratch, which can clear up a weak or stuck connection. Just swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and tap the airplane icon.
Wait about 10 seconds, then tap it again to turn it off. Give your phone another 30 seconds to re-establish a full connection. I'd start with this one every time your data feels sluggish.
Check Your Current Network Mode
Your POCO F6 supports 5G, but sometimes it can get stuck on a slower 4G or even 3G band. You can manually set it to prefer 5G to ensure you're getting the fastest available speed. Go to Settings > Mobile network.
Tap on the SIM card you're using for data, then look for Preferred network type. Select 5G/4G/3G/2G (auto) if it's not already chosen. This tells your phone to use 5G whenever it's available in your area.
Clear the Cache for Google Play Services
This is a common culprit for weird connectivity issues on Android phones. Google Play Services runs in the background and manages a lot of core functions, including some network communications. Corrupted cache data here can slow things down.
Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Tap the search icon and type "Google Play Services". Select it, then tap Storage usage. Here, you'll see a Clear cache button. Tap it. This doesn't delete any personal data, so it's safe to do.
Enable Data Saver and Restrict Background Data
HyperOS has a great Data Saver feature that stops apps from using mobile data in the background. This not only saves your data plan but can also improve speed for the app you're actively using. Find it in Settings > Mobile network > Data saver and toggle it on.
For more control, you can restrict background data for specific apps that are data hogs. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps, select an app like Facebook or Instagram, tap Mobile data & Wi-Fi, and toggle off Background data.
Reset Your Wi-Fi, Mobile, and Bluetooth Settings
If you're having issues on both Wi-Fi and mobile data, a network settings reset can work wonders. This clears all saved Wi-Fi networks, paired Bluetooth devices, and cellular settings, returning them to factory defaults.
You won't lose any personal files or apps. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset. Tap on Reset phone, and then select Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. Confirm the reset and your phone will reboot. Afterward, you'll just need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi.
Forget and Reconnect to Your Wi-Fi Network
Sometimes your phone holds onto a poor connection to your home router. Telling it to forget the network and sign back in can force a fresh, optimal connection. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap on the network you're connected to.
At the bottom, tap Forget network. Confirm, then tap on the network name again from the list and re-enter the password to reconnect. This often immediately improves speed if the router has updated its settings.
Check for System and Carrier Services Updates
POCO and your mobile carrier regularly release updates that can improve network stability and performance. First, check for a system update by going to Settings > About phone > MIUI version. Tap "Check for updates".
Also, check the Security app on your phone. Open it, tap the three-dot menu, and select Update to see if there are any carrier services or security patches waiting. Installing these can resolve known connectivity bugs.
Disable Any Active VPN Connection
While VPNs are great for privacy, they route your traffic through another server, which almost always adds latency and reduces your internet speed. If you're using a VPN app and experiencing slowdowns, try disabling it.
Swipe down your notification shade and see if there's a VPN key icon or an active notification for your VPN app. Tapping it will usually let you disconnect. Test your internet speed before and after to see if the VPN was the bottleneck.
Clear Your Browser's Cache and Data
If slow internet seems specific to web browsing, your browser's stored files might be the issue. For Chrome, open the app and tap the three dots in the top right. Go to History > Clear browsing data.
Select a time range like "All time". Make sure Cached images and files and Cookies and site data are checked. Tap "Clear data". This will log you out of websites but can make page loading significantly faster.
Perform a Simple Restart or Force Restart
Never underestimate the power of turning it off and on again. A normal restart clears the phone's temporary memory and stops any errant processes. Just hold the power button and tap "Restart".
If the phone is frozen or the restart doesn't help, try a force restart. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds or more until you feel a vibration and see the POCO logo appear. This is a deeper reset for the system and can clear more stubborn glitches affecting the modem.
