When your POCO F6's Settings app keeps closing or crashing, it's usually a temporary software hiccup. The app might close immediately after opening, or you might see a brief error message before it shuts down. This can happen on HyperOS, especially after an update or when there's a conflict with another app.

I'd start with a simple restart. It sounds basic, but it clears the phone's temporary memory and can stop a misbehaving app in its tracks. Just press and hold the power button, then tap "Restart" on the screen. If the Settings app is so frozen you can't do that, you'll need to force restart.

For a force restart on the POCO F6, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you feel a vibration and see the POCO logo appear. This is a hard reboot that can fix deeper glitches causing the crash.

Clear the Settings App Cache and Data

If a restart didn't help, the next step is to clear the app's stored data. The Settings app saves cache files to run faster, but this data can become corrupted. Clearing it forces the app to start fresh with clean data.

Go to your phone's Settings. You might need to be quick before it crashes. Tap on "Apps" and then "Manage apps." In the list, find and select the app named "Settings." Inside its info page, tap on "Storage usage."

Here, you'll see two buttons: "Clear cache" and "Clear data." Tap "Clear cache" first. This is safe and won't delete your personal settings. If the app still crashes, go back and tap "Clear data." This will reset the Settings app to its default state, so you may need to reconfigure some preferences, but your accounts and files will be untouched.

Check for a System Update

Xiaomi and POCO frequently release updates for HyperOS that fix bugs like this. An outdated system can have conflicts that cause core apps to fail. It's a good idea to check for an update, especially if the problem started recently.

Since the Settings app is crashing, you might need a workaround to get there. Try using the search bar on your home screen. Swipe down and type "Software update" or "System update." This might open the correct page directly. If you can get in, tap "Check for updates" and install any available firmware.

Your POCO F6 uses a 90W charger, so make sure it's plugged in during the update. The process is fast, but you don't want the battery to die mid-install. After the update completes, your phone will restart. Test the Settings app again to see if the update resolved the instability.

Manage Google Play Services

Google Play Services is a background app that many system functions rely on. If it has an issue, it can cause unexpected crashes in other apps, including Settings. You can try force-stopping it to let it restart.

Go back to **Settings > Apps > Manage apps**. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select "Show system apps." Now, scroll down and find "Google Play Services." Tap on it, then tap "Force stop." Confirm if prompted. This won't harm anything. The service will restart automatically in a few moments.

For more stubborn issues, you can clear its cache. Go into the same "Google Play Services" app info page, tap "Storage usage," and then "Clear cache." Avoid clearing its data unless absolutely necessary, as it can cause other apps to misbehave until they resync.

Boot into Safe Mode

If Settings only crashes when you're using the phone normally, a third-party app you installed could be the culprit. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all downloaded apps, letting you test if one of them is causing the conflict.

To enter Safe Mode on the POCO F6, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." Your phone will restart, and you'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner.

In Safe Mode, try opening the Settings app. If it opens and works perfectly, you know a downloaded app is to blame. Restart your phone normally to exit Safe Mode, and then try uninstalling apps you recently installed, one by one, testing Settings after each removal.

Consider a Factory Reset

If you've tried everything and the Settings app remains unusable, a factory reset is the final software fix. This will erase all data on your phone, so it's crucial to back up your photos, contacts, and files to Xiaomi Cloud, Google Drive, or a computer first.

Since accessing Settings might be impossible, you can use the hardware keys. First, power off your POCO F6 completely. Then, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button together until the POCO logo appears. This will boot you into the Recovery menu.

Use the volume buttons to navigate to "Wipe data" and select it with the power button. Then, choose "Wipe all data." Confirm your selection. The phone will reset and reboot. After setup, the Settings app should be stable, as you'll be starting with a clean installation of HyperOS.
