When your Onn Google TV Stick won't connect to WiFi, you're stuck staring at a loading screen instead of your favorite shows. Whether it's not seeing your network, connecting but having no internet, or dropping the signal constantly, these steps will get you back to streaming.

Restart Your Onn Stick and Router

Start with the classic fix. Unplug the power cable from your Onn Google TV Stick and wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in. This simple restart clears out any temporary glitches in the device's memory. While you're at it, unplug your router for a full minute to reset your entire network connection.

Plug the router back in and give it a few minutes to fully boot up. Then, power on your Onn Stick again. I've found this combination fixes the majority of random WiFi dropouts on streaming devices.

Forget and Re-add Your WiFi Network

Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet on your Onn Stick. Select your current WiFi network and choose Forget. This wipes the saved connection profile, which can sometimes become corrupted.

Go back to the network list, find your WiFi name again, and re-enter your password carefully. The on-screen keyboard can be tricky, so double-check for any typos in uppercase letters or special characters.

Check Your WiFi Band and Signal

The Onn Stick supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands. If your stick is far from the router or there are several walls in between, try switching to the 2.4GHz network. It has a longer range and better wall penetration, even if it's a bit slower.

You can check your signal strength right in the Network & Internet settings. If it's weak, consider moving your router closer or using a WiFi extender. As a budget device, the Onn Stick's internal antenna isn't as powerful as some premium models.

Update the Google TV Software

Outdated software is a common culprit for connectivity bugs. Go to Settings > System > About > System update and check for updates.

If your stick is completely offline and can't download the update, you might need to temporarily move it closer to your router or use a mobile hotspot just to get the update files. Keeping the software current is key for stability.

Clear the Cache for Google Play Services

With the Onn Stick's limited 8GB of storage, cached data can sometimes interfere with system processes. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Show system apps.

Find Google Play Services in the list. Select it, then choose Force stop, followed by Clear cache. This won't delete any personal data, but it can resolve conflicts that prevent network access.

Change Your DNS Server

Sometimes the problem isn't the connection itself, but the address book your stick uses to find websites. In your network settings, after selecting your WiFi, choose Advanced options.

Change the IP settings from DHCP to Static. You don't need to change the IP address, but scroll down to the DNS settings. Set DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4 (Google's public DNS). This can often bypass slow or problematic DNS servers from your internet provider.

Check for App-Specific Issues

If you can browse menus but one app like Netflix or YouTube won't load, the issue might be isolated. Go to Settings > Apps and find the problematic app.

Select Force stop, then Clear cache. If that doesn't work, try Clear data (note: this will log you out). Finally, check for an update to that specific app in the Google Play Store.

Reduce Wireless Interference

Your Onn Stick's WiFi signal can be disrupted by other electronics. If it's plugged directly into the TV's HDMI port, try using the included HDMI extender cable to move it away from the back of the TV.

Also, keep it away from other wireless devices like cordless phones, baby monitors, or Bluetooth speakers. Microwaves can also cause temporary interference when in use.

Reset Your Network Settings

If you're still stuck, you can reset all network configurations without doing a full factory reset. Go to Settings > System > Reset options.

Select Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. This will erase all saved networks and Bluetooth pairings, returning those settings to factory defaults. You'll then need to set up your WiFi connection from scratch.

Perform a Factory Reset

As a last resort, a factory reset will wipe the device clean. Be aware this will erase all your apps, logins, and settings. First, try to note down the apps you use most.

Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). After the reset, you'll go through the initial setup again, where you can test the WiFi connection immediately. Since this is a Walmart-exclusive device, you can also check walmart.com for specific support articles if the problem persists.
