If you tap send on a picture or group message and it just sits there on your Nothing Phone 2a, it's a common but fixable hiccup. MMS needs the right combination of data settings and app permissions to work, and a small glitch in any of them can stop messages in their tracks.

Let's start with the quickest fix. Pull down the notification shade and make sure your mobile data is turned on. MMS won't send over Wi-Fi alone, it requires an active cellular data connection. If you see the 4G or 5G icon, try toggling Airplane mode on for a few seconds and then off again to refresh the network.

Verify Your Nothing Phone 2a's MMS Settings

Open the Messages app on your Phone 2a and tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then go to Settings. Look for a section called "Multimedia messages" or "Advanced." Inside, ensure that "Auto-download MMS" is enabled. Also, if you see an option for "Roaming auto-retrieve," you can turn that on too if you're traveling.

Sometimes the issue is with the size limit for sending. Check if there's a maximum attachment size setting and increase it if it's set very low. A photo taken on the Phone 2a's camera can easily be too large for a restrictive limit.

Check and Update APN Settings

This is often the culprit. The Access Point Name (APN) tells your phone how to connect to your carrier's data and MMS services. If these settings are wrong, pictures won't go through.

Go to Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network > Access Point Names. You should see a list with your carrier's APN selected. Tap on it to view the details. You need to verify the MMSC (Multimedia Messaging Service Center) address is correct. This is a specific web address provided by your carrier.

If anything looks off or is blank, the safest move is to contact your carrier's support. They can give you the exact APN settings to enter or may even be able to push them to your phone 2a remotely. Don't guess at these values.

Clear the Cache for Your Messaging App

Temporary files can get corrupted and block MMS. Clearing the cache is safe and won't delete your messages. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Find your messaging app (like Google Messages or the Nothing default app) and tap it.

Select Storage & cache and then tap Clear cache. Give it a try and see if messages send now. If the problem is really stubborn, you can tap Clear storage or Clear data, but be warned this will erase your entire message history within that app.

Ensure Mobile Data is Enabled for Messaging

On Android, you can restrict background data usage on a per-app basis. If this is turned off for your messaging app, it might not be able to use data to send MMS even when your overall mobile data is on.

Go back to the app's info page in Settings (Settings > Apps > [Your Messaging App]). Tap on Mobile data & Wi-Fi. Make sure "Background data" is allowed and that "Unrestricted data usage" is toggled on. This gives the app permission to use data whenever it needs to.

Perform a Soft Reset on Your Phone 2a

A simple reboot can clear out a temporary software snag. Just press and hold the power button on the right side of your Phone 2a until the power menu appears, then tap "Restart." Wait for it to fully boot back up.

If the phone is unresponsive, you can force a restart by pressing and holding the power button for about 10-15 seconds until you feel it vibrate and see the Nothing logo.

Update Nothing OS and Your Apps

An outdated system or messaging app might have a bug that's interfering. Check for a software update by going to Settings > System > System update. Download and install any available updates for Nothing OS.

Next, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device > Updates available. See if your messaging app has an update waiting and install it.

Reset Your Phone 2a's Network Settings

This is a more thorough step that resets all network-related configurations back to default. It will erase saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and cellular settings like APNs, so you'll have to reconnect to Wi-Fi afterwards.

To do this, go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap on Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth and confirm. After the phone restarts, your APN settings should be freshly loaded from your carrier, which often fixes MMS problems.

Check Your Phone's Storage Space

MMS messages, especially ones you receive, need space to download. If your Phone 2a's internal storage is completely full, it can fail. Go to Settings > Storage to see how much free space you have.

Try to clear out a few hundred megabytes if you're running low. Delete old downloaded files or unused apps. You don't need tons of free space, but having less than 1% free can cause all sorts of issues, including with messaging.

Try a Different Messaging App

If you're using the default Nothing messaging app, the issue might be specific to that app. Installing a popular alternative like Google Messages can be a great test. Download it from the Play Store, set it as your default app when prompted, and see if you can send an MMS.

If it works in the new app, you know the problem is with the original app's configuration or data. You can either stick with the new app or use its success as a clue to keep troubleshooting the first one.
