If your Nothing Phone 2a is taking forever to charge, it's usually a simple mismatch between what the phone can do and what you're plugging into. The Phone 2a supports 45W fast charging, but you need the right gear to hit that speed.

Confirm Your Charger Supports PD 3.0

This is the most common culprit. Your Phone 2a needs a USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 charger to reach its full 45W potential. Check the small print on your charger's brick. If it doesn't mention PD 3.0 or is rated below 45W, you'll get slower speeds. I'd start by verifying this.

Any good 45W+ PD 3.0 charger will work, not just Nothing's official one. Using an old laptop charger, a low-power bank plug, or a generic USB-A adapter will force the phone to charge at a much slower, basic rate.

Watch the Glyph Interface Lights

Your Phone 2a has a handy visual indicator on the back. When you plug it in, the Glyph lights should pulse to show charging is active. If they don't light up at all, the phone isn't recognizing a proper charging connection.

A steady or pulsing light is good. If the lights behave erratically or flicker, it often points to a dirty charging port or a faulty cable. This is a quick, built-in way to diagnose the issue before you dig deeper.

Inspect and Clean the USB-C Port

Pocket lint loves to pack itself into the USB-C port. Even a small amount can prevent the cable from seating fully, which drastically cuts power delivery. Power the phone off first for safety.

Use a wooden toothpick or a plastic flosser pick to gently scrape around the center tongue of the port. You'll be surprised how much compacted dust can come out. Never use a metal object, as it can short the pins.

Try a Different USB-C Cable

Cables wear out, especially at the ends where they bend. The Phone 2a requires a high-quality USB-C to USB-C cable capable of handling up to 45W. The cable that came in the box is a safe bet.

If you're using a different one, try swapping it. A cable that only supports slower charging or has internal damage will bottleneck the entire process, even with a perfect 45W PD charger.

Let the Phone Cool Down

If your Phone 2a feels warm or hot to the touch, it will automatically slow charging to protect the battery. This is normal. Using the phone intensely while charging, like gaming or recording video, generates a lot of heat.

For the fastest charge, leave it alone on a cool, hard surface like a nightstand. Avoid charging on soft surfaces like a bed or couch, as they trap heat. Taking off a thick case can also help it dissipate warmth better.

Perform a Force Restart

Sometimes a minor software glitch can mess with the power management system. A quick reboot can clear it. Simply press and hold the Power button for 10 to 15 seconds until you see the Nothing logo appear and the phone restarts.

This is a soft reset that doesn't erase any data. It's a good step to try after you've checked the physical connections, as it rules out a temporary software hang.

Check for Software Updates

Nothing occasionally releases updates that optimize battery and charging performance. Go to Settings > System > System update to check if you're running the latest version of Nothing OS.

Installing an update can resolve bugs that might be interfering with the fast charging protocol. It only takes a few minutes and is worth doing if you haven't updated in a while.

Remember, No Wireless Charging

The Nothing Phone 2a does not support wireless charging of any kind. If you're trying to place it on a Qi charger, it simply won't work. All charging must be done through the USB-C port.

This is a design choice for the model, not a defect. Stick to wired charging and make sure you're using the port we just talked about cleaning.
