If your Nothing Phone (2) is showing a black screen and won't respond, the first thing to try is a force restart. Press and hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds until you feel a vibration or see the Nothing logo appear. This simple reboot can clear out temporary software glitches that cause the phone to freeze.

Check Your Charger and Cable

Your phone might have a completely drained battery. Connect it to a wall outlet using the original USB-C cable and a powerful charger. For the fastest charging, you'll want a 45W USB-PD charger. Let it charge undisturbed for at least 30 minutes before trying the power button again.

Sometimes the issue is with the accessories. Try a different charging cable and a different wall adapter if you have them. Also, remove any phone case, as a thick case can sometimes prevent the cable from seating fully in the USB-C port.

Inspect for Physical Damage

Take a close look at your phone. A severe drop can cause internal damage that prevents it from powering on, even if the screen looks okay. Check for any cracks, especially around the edges, or any signs that the back glass has been compromised.

Also, inspect the USB-C port on the bottom of the phone. Use a flashlight to look for any packed-in lint, dust, or debris. You can gently clean it out with a dry, soft-bristled brush or a wooden toothpick. A blocked port will stop it from charging.

Boot Into Safe Mode

If the phone turns on but gets stuck on a black screen or the Nothing logo, a recently installed app might be the culprit. Booting into Safe Mode temporarily disables all third-party apps.

To enter Safe Mode, first force restart the phone by holding the Power button for 10 seconds. The moment you see the Nothing logo appear, immediately press and hold the Volume Down button. Keep holding it until you see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner of the screen. If the phone boots successfully this way, you'll need to uninstall recent apps one by one to find the offender.

Try a Different Power Source

Conversely, if you were using wireless, switch to a wired connection. I'd also avoid charging from a laptop or car USB port for this test, as they often don't provide enough consistent power to wake a deeply drained battery.

Check for Overheating

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip in the Phone (2) is powerful but can get warm during heavy use. All phones have a safety feature that forces them to shut down if they overheat. If your phone was left in direct sunlight or was running intensive tasks, this could be the reason.

If you suspect overheating, move the phone to a cool, shaded place and leave it alone for at least an hour. Don't try to charge it while it's hot. After it has had time to cool down completely, try the force restart again.

Enter Recovery Mode for Advanced Options

If the phone is partially responsive but stuck, you can try accessing Recovery Mode to clear system cache. First, power the phone off completely. Then, press and hold the Power button and Volume Up button simultaneously.
