When your Motorola Razr Plus (2024) stops ringing for incoming calls, it can feel like you're carrying a very expensive camera instead of a phone. This is a surprisingly common hiccup with foldables, often tied to a quirky setting or a minor software glitch. The good news is you can almost always get it working again with a few minutes of troubleshooting.

I'd start with the simplest fix first, which often does the trick. Pull down the notification shade from the top of your cover screen or main display and look for the airplane icon. If it's lit up, tap it to turn Airplane Mode off. If it wasn't on, try turning it on, wait ten seconds, and then turn it off again. This forces your phone's radio to reconnect to the cellular network from scratch.

Check Your Do Not Disturb and Focus Modes

On the Razr Plus, it's easy to accidentally silence calls with a swipe. Swipe down twice from the top to open your full Quick Settings panel and check for the "Do Not Disturb" or "Priority only" icon. If it's active, tap it to disable it.

You should also check your Focus modes. Go to Settings > Digital Wellbeing & parental controls > Focus mode. See if any schedules or active modes are blocking notifications. The "Bedtime mode" can also silence calls, so make sure that's configured the way you want.

Review Call Blocking and Spam Settings

Motorola's software includes some helpful but sometimes overzealous spam protection. Open your Phone app, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and go to Settings > Caller ID & spam.

Look at the options here. If "Filter spam calls" is on, try turning it off temporarily to see if legitimate calls are being mistakenly blocked. Also, tap on "Blocked numbers" to review the list and ensure a contact hasn't been added there by accident.

Verify Your Network Connection and SIM

Poor signal is an obvious culprit, but on a foldable, the way you hold it can sometimes affect reception. Unfold your Razr Plus and check the signal bars in the top corner. If they're low, try moving to a different location.

It's also worth reseating your SIM card. Use the ejector tool that came in the box to pop out the SIM tray. Remove the SIM, gently clean the gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reinsert it firmly. A loose connection here can definitely cause call issues.

Disable Call Forwarding

Call forwarding might be enabled without your knowledge, sending all your calls straight to voicemail or another number. To check, open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, and go to Settings > Calling accounts > [Your Carrier].

Look for "Call forwarding" or "Supplementary services" in the menu. Tap into it and make sure all forwarding options (like "Always forward" or "When busy") are set to "Off" or are not forwarding to a number.

Reset Your Network Settings

If calls are still not coming through, a network settings reset can clear out any corrupted connection data. Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap on "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth."

Confirm the reset. This will erase all saved Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and cellular network preferences, so you'll need to reconnect to your wireless networks and re-pair accessories like your watch or earbuds afterward.

Update Your Phone's Software

Motorola frequently releases updates that fix bugs, including ones related to calling. Make sure your Razr Plus is running the latest version of Android 14. Go to Settings > System > System updates.

Tap "Check for update." If one is available, download and install it. It's best to do this while connected to Wi-Fi and with the phone plugged into its 45W TurboPower charger, unfolded to keep it cool during the process.

Clear the Phone App's Cache and Data

A glitch in the Phone app's stored data can break calling functions. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Find and tap on "Phone" in the list.

Select Storage & cache. Tap "Clear cache" first and test calling. If the problem persists, go back and tap "Clear storage" or "Clear data." This will reset the app to its default state, so you may lose your call history and any custom settings within the dialer.

Check for Problematic Third-Party Apps

An app you recently installed could be interfering with telephony services. Think back to any new downloads around the time the problem started, especially call recorders, dialers, or heavy battery savers.

Try booting your Razr Plus into Safe Mode. Press and hold the power button, then on the power off menu, tap and hold "Restart" until you see the Safe Mode prompt. In Safe Mode, third-party apps are disabled. If calls work normally here, a recently installed app is likely the cause.

Perform a Factory Reset

If every other step has failed, a factory reset is the final software fix. This will erase everything on your phone, so you must back up your photos, messages, and app data first. Use Google Drive or the Motorola Migrate tool.

Once backed up, go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). Follow the prompts to complete the reset. After the phone restarts, set it up as new initially to see if the calling issue is resolved before restoring your backup.
