When your Motorola Moto G Power (2025) doesn't show up on your computer, it puts a stop to transferring photos, managing files, or doing a backup. This is a common hiccup with Android phones, but it's almost always something you can fix yourself with a few checks.
The issue usually comes down to the cable, the USB port, a software setting, or a driver on your PC. Since the Moto G Power uses a standard USB-C port, compatibility is rarely the problem itself.
Check Your USB Cable and Port
This is the very first thing to try. The cable that came with your Moto G Power is a 30W USB-C charger, but any data-capable USB-C cable should work. Try a different cable if you have one, and make sure it's firmly plugged into both the phone and your computer.
Also, try a different USB port on your PC. Front panel ports can be less reliable than the ones directly on the motherboard at the back. If you're using a hub, try connecting directly instead.
Clean the USB-C Port on Your Phone
Pocket lint and dust love to cram into the USB-C port. Even a little bit can block the connection. Shine a flashlight in there and look for any debris.
You can gently use a dry toothpick or a plastic dental pick to carefully scrape out any gunk. Avoid using anything metal, as you could damage the delicate charging pins inside. A quick blast of compressed air can also help dislodge loose particles.
Restart Both Your Phone and Computer
A simple restart clears out temporary glitches that can mess with the connection. Turn your Moto G Power off and back on. Then, restart your Windows PC or Mac.
For a more thorough reset on the phone, you can perform a force restart. Just press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you feel it vibrate and the Motorola logo appears. This doesn't erase any data.
Check the USB Connection Notification
When you plug your Moto G Power into a PC, a notification should appear in your phone's notification shade. Tap on it. You'll see options like "File Transfer" or "Transfer files." Make sure this is selected, not "Charging only."
If you don't see the notification at all, pull down the notification shade fully and look for a "USB" or "Android System" notification. Sometimes it gets minimized.
Update Your Motorola USB Drivers on Windows
Outdated or missing drivers on your Windows PC are a huge reason phones don't show up. Connect your phone, then press the Windows key + X and choose Device Manager. Look under "Portable Devices" or "Other Devices" for your phone (it might show as an unknown device).
Right-click on it and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for drivers." Windows will often find a generic driver that works. For the best results, you can install the official Google USB Driver from the Android developer website, which works for all Android devices including Motorola.
Enable Developer Options and USB Debugging
This is a useful advanced step that can help the PC recognize your phone. First, enable Developer Options by going to Settings > About phone and tapping "Build number" seven times.
Go back to the main Settings menu, then go into "System" and find "Developer options." In there, look for "USB debugging" and toggle it on. You'll see a warning prompt; just tap OK. Try connecting your phone again after enabling this.
Check for Software Updates
Sometimes a bug in Android 15 or your computer's operating system is the culprit. On your Moto G Power, go to Settings > System > System updates to check for any available updates.
On your Windows PC, go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates. For Macs, check for updates in System Preferences.
Try a Different USB Configuration Mode
If the standard "File Transfer" mode isn't working, you can try switching the default USB behavior. In Developer Options (see above), look for "Default USB configuration."
Tap on it and try selecting a different option, like "File Transfer / Android Auto." Then unplug and reconnect your phone to see if it's detected.
Reset Network & Connectivity Settings
This resets all your wireless and Bluetooth settings, but it can also clear up USB connection issues. Go to Settings > System > Reset options.
Tap on "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth." Confirm the reset. You'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi networks afterward, but it won't touch your personal files or apps.
Use the Motorola Device Help App or Windows Photos App
Your Moto G Power has a built-in "Device Help" app. Open it and search for "USB connection" – it may have specific guidance. On the PC side, sometimes using a specific app can force the connection.
On Windows, try opening the built-in Photos app. Sometimes it will recognize an Android phone when File Explorer doesn't, allowing you to import pictures which can kickstart the broader connection.
