When your LG Smart TV won't connect to the internet, your streaming apps and smart features are completely locked out. The problem can range from the TV not seeing your network at all to connecting but having no actual internet access.

Here are the most effective ways to get your LG TV back online.

Restart Your TV and Router

Unplug your LG TV from the wall outlet for a full minute. This is more effective than just using the remote to turn it off. While you're waiting, unplug your router and modem for 30 seconds as well.

Plug your modem and router back in first, waiting a few minutes for them to fully boot. Then plug your TV back in. This simple power cycle clears temporary glitches in both devices and is the most common fix.

Check Your Network Mode

On your LG TV, press the Settings button on your remote. Navigate to All Settings > General > System > Home/Store Mode.

Make sure this is set to Home Mode. Store Mode can sometimes limit network functionality for display purposes. Changing this setting requires a quick restart of the TV to take effect.

Forget and Reconnect to WiFi

Go to All Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Connection. Select your current network name and choose Disconnect or Forget.

Then, select Scan to find your network again. Re-enter your WiFi password carefully. I've seen this resolve issues where the TV saved a corrupted network profile.

Verify Your WiFi Password

Double-check that you're entering the correct password. The on-screen keyboard can be tricky, so watch for uppercase letters and special characters.

If you're unsure, try connecting another device, like your phone, to the same network with the password you're using. This confirms the password is correct.

Move Closer to Your Router

Smart TVs often have weaker WiFi antennas than other devices. If your router is in another room or far away, the signal might be too weak for a stable connection.

You can check the signal strength in your TV's network settings. If it's low, try moving the router closer or using a WiFi extender to boost the signal near your TV.

Switch to the 2.4GHz Band

If your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, try connecting your LG TV to the 2.4GHz band. The 5GHz band is faster but has a shorter range and doesn't penetrate walls as well.

The 2.4GHz band is slower but much better at reaching distant rooms, which is often more important for streaming video.

Update Your TV's Software

Outdated software can cause all sorts of connectivity bugs. Go to All Settings > Support > Software Update and select Check for Updates.

If your TV can't connect to the internet to download an update, you can download the latest firmware from the LG website onto a USB drive and install it manually through the same menu.

Change the DNS Server

Sometimes the default DNS servers from your internet provider are slow or unreliable. In your TV's network settings, find the option to set your DNS manually.

Change it from automatic to manual and enter 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 as the secondary. These are Google's public DNS servers and can often resolve connection problems.

Use a Wired Ethernet Connection

For the most reliable connection, use an Ethernet cable. Plug one end into your router and the other into the Ethernet port on the back of your LG TV.

A wired connection is always faster and more stable than WiFi. If your router is too far from the TV, a powerline network adapter can send the internet signal through your home's electrical wiring.

Reset Your Smart TV

If all else fails, you can reset the TV's network settings. Go to All Settings > General > Reset to Initial Settings.

Be aware that this is a full factory reset. It will erase all your apps, logins, and picture settings, returning the TV to how it was out of the box. Only use this as a last resort after trying every other solution.
