When the flashlight on your iPad (11th gen) won't turn on, it can be surprisingly inconvenient. The button in Control Center might be unresponsive or completely grayed out. Let's walk through the steps to get your light working again.

Close the Camera App

The camera flash and the flashlight are the same LED on your iPad. If the Camera app is open, even in the background, it locks that hardware. Swipe up from the bottom to enter the App Switcher and swipe the Camera app card away to fully close it. You should see the flashlight button in Control Center become active again right away.

Restart Your iPad

A simple restart clears out the temporary software state that manages the LED. To restart your iPad, press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and hold the Top button until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
