Seeing no bars or service on your Huawei Pura 70 Pro is incredibly frustrating, especially when you need to make a call or use mobile data. This usually means your phone can't connect to your carrier's cellular network. The good news is that most of the time, this is a temporary glitch you can fix yourself in a few minutes.

I'd start with the simplest fix first. Pull down the notification shade from the top of your screen and make sure Airplane Mode isn't accidentally turned on. If it is, tap the icon to turn it off. Next, try toggling Mobile Data off and back on from the same quick settings panel.

If that doesn't bring your signal back, the next step is to force restart your phone. This clears out any temporary software bugs that might be blocking the cellular radio. Just press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the Huawei logo appear on the screen.

Check Your SIM Card

A loose or dirty SIM card is a very common culprit for no service issues. The Pura 70 Pro uses a nano-SIM, which is quite small and can shift in its tray. You'll need the SIM ejector tool that came in the box. Gently push it into the small hole on the side of the phone to pop out the tray.

Carefully remove the SIM card and give the gold contacts a quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Blow any dust out of the SIM tray slot on the phone itself. Then, reinsert the SIM card, making sure it's seated firmly and the right way up, and push the tray back in until it clicks.

Verify Your Network Selection

Sometimes your phone might get stuck trying to connect to a network it can't actually use. You can manually tell it to search for and connect to your proper carrier. Go to Settings > Mobile network.

Tap on Network operators. Your phone will search for a moment. When the list appears, select your carrier's name from the options. If you're not sure, or just want it to be automatic, choose Select automatically instead.

Reset Your Network Settings

If you're still seeing no bars, a network settings reset can clear out any corrupted configuration data. This won't delete your photos or apps, but it will forget all your saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings.

To do this, navigate to Settings > System & updates > Reset. Tap on Reset network settings and confirm your choice. Your phone will reboot, and you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi networks afterward.

Update Your APN Settings

The Access Point Name (APN) is like the address your phone uses to find your carrier's data network. If these settings are wrong, you won't get any service. The correct APN details are unique to your mobile provider.

Go to Settings > Mobile network > Mobile data. Tap on Access Point Names (APN). If there's already an APN listed for your carrier, select it and tap the three dots in the top right, then choose Reset to default.

If the list is empty or the reset doesn't work, you'll need to enter the settings manually. You can usually find these by searching online for "[Your Carrier Name] APN settings 2024" or by contacting your carrier's customer support directly.

Check for a Software Update

Huawei regularly releases updates for EMUI that can fix bugs affecting cellular connectivity. It's worth checking if you have one pending. Connect your Pura 70 Pro to a Wi-Fi network first, as these updates can be large.

Then, go to Settings > System & updates > Software update. Tap Check for updates. If an update is available, follow the prompts to download and install it. Your phone will restart during this process.

Use the Phone Information Menu

EMUI has a hidden diagnostic menu that lets you check the status of your phone's radio. Open your Phone dialer app and type *#*#4636#*#*. This should open the Testing menu.

Tap on Phone information. Here, you can see the state of your cellular radio. First, make sure the "Set preferred network type" dropdown is set to a standard option like NR/LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto. You can also try tapping the Turn off radio button, waiting a few seconds, and then tapping it again to turn the radio back on.

Consider Your Location and 5G

The Huawei Pura 70 Pro has limited 5G band support in some regions outside of China. If you're traveling or in an area with spotty 5G coverage, your phone might struggle to find a stable signal. You can try forcing it to use 4G/LTE only, which is often more reliable.

Go back to Settings > Mobile network. Tap on Network mode or a similar option. Change the selection from "5G/4G/3G/2G auto" to just 4G/3G/2G auto. This tells your phone to ignore 5G towers and might result in a stronger, more consistent connection.

Test with a Different SIM Card

This step helps you figure out if the problem is with your phone or with your SIM card and account. If you can, borrow a SIM card from a friend or family member who uses a different carrier. Pop their SIM into your Pura 70 Pro.

If their SIM card gets service immediately, then the issue is likely with your original SIM or your carrier account. You should contact your mobile provider's support. They can check for outages in your area, verify your account is active, and send you a replacement SIM if yours is faulty.

Review Installed Apps

Since the Pura 70 Pro doesn't have Google Play Services, many users sideload apps from third-party stores or APK files. Occasionally, a poorly coded app can interfere with system functions, including cellular connectivity.

Think about any new apps you installed just before the service dropped. Try booting your phone into Safe Mode. Press and hold the Power button until the power off menu appears, then press and hold the "Power off" text on screen until you see a prompt to reboot to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third-party apps are disabled. If your service returns, you know a downloaded app is the cause, and you can start uninstalling recent additions.
