You just got your new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. Now you need all your stuff on it, contacts, apps, photos, the works. Here's the fastest and easiest ways to make that happen.
Use Smart Switch with a USB-C Cable
For pure speed, nothing beats a wired transfer. Grab a USB-C cable (the one that came with your Z Flip 7 works perfectly). Plug both phones together.
On your Z Flip 7, go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Bring data from old device. Smart Switch launches automatically and walks you through it. Select what you want to transfer and hit Transfer.
This method is significantly faster than Wi-Fi. You can move a hundred gigs in minutes rather than hours.
Go Wireless with Smart Switch
Don't have a cable handy? Wireless works fine for most people. Open Smart Switch on both phones. On your old phone, tap Send data. On your Z Flip 7, tap Receive data.
Keep the phones close together during the transfer. It's slower than USB but perfectly reliable for contacts, messages, and photos.
Coming from an iPhone?
Smart Switch handles iPhones too. On your Z Flip 7, open Smart Switch and select iPhone/iPad as the source. You have two choices: wired or iCloud.
For wired, you'll need a Lightning to USB-C cable. Plug it in and follow the prompts. For iCloud, sign into your Apple ID within Smart Switch and pick the most recent backup. It pulls over messages, contacts, photos, and calendar entries.
A note on apps: a lot of your paid iPhone apps won't cross over directly. You'll need to grab the Android versions from the Play Store.
Restore from Samsung Cloud or Google
If you already backed up your old Samsung to Samsung Cloud, signing into your Samsung account during the Z Flip 7 setup is all it takes. Choose Restore from Samsung Cloud and pick your backup.
Google handles the bulk of your day-to-day data. Contacts, calendar events, and app data sync automatically when you sign into your Google account. Check what's syncing in Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > Google.
Move WhatsApp and Other Chats
WhatsApp has a built-in transfer tool for Android to Android. Open WhatsApp on your old phone, go to Settings > Chats > Transfer chats, and follow the instructions.
For other messaging apps, check their settings for backup or export options. Game progress saves through Google Play Games, so logging into the same account on your Z Flip 7 picks up right where you left off.
Fix Common Setup Glitches
After a big transfer, your Z Flip 7 is busy indexing everything. If it feels sluggish or you run into a weird glitch, don't panic.
Press and hold the Volume Down and Side key together for about 10-15 seconds. This forces a soft restart without wiping any data. It clears up most setup hiccups instantly.
Some units had a bug where charging stopped intermittently or wouldn't reach 100% on the first try. If that happens, unplug the cable and plug it back in. The soft reset usually resolves it until Samsung releases a permanent fix.
If you plan to use wireless charging, stick with Samsung's official pad for the full 15W. Third-party pads can be unreliable. Make sure the phone is centered on the pad.
Once everything is moved, check that your apps, contacts, and photos are all there. Remove the data from your old phone once you're confident the transfer worked: Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset.
