Switching to your new POCO F6 is exciting, and with the right steps, you can move everything over without losing a single photo or chat. I've found that taking a few minutes to prepare your old phone makes the whole process incredibly smooth.

Start with a Google Backup on Your Old Phone

Before you even touch your new F6, make sure your old Android phone is fully backed up. Go to Settings > Google > Backup and tap Back up now. This saves your app data, call history, contacts, and device settings to the cloud. It's a great safety net.

For photos and videos, double-check that Google Photos backup is on. Open the Google Photos app, tap your profile picture, and go to Photos settings > Back up & sync. This ensures your entire gallery is ready to sync to the new device.

Use the POCO F6's Built-in Transfer Tool

The absolute easiest method is during the initial setup of your F6. When you power it on for the first time, you'll reach a "Copy data" screen. Tap Next and select your old phone type.

If you're coming from another Android device, choose that option. Your F6 will create a private Wi-Fi hotspot. On your old phone, open the Google app and say "set up my device," or go to its Settings > Google > Set up & restore > Set up nearby device. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect.

You'll then see a list of everything you can transfer: contacts, messages, photos, videos, and even your home screen layout. Just select what you want and let it run. The 90W charger is great for topping up the battery if this takes a while.

Switch from an iPhone to Your POCO F6

If you're moving from an iPhone, the process is still straightforward. On the F6's setup screen, select iPhone as your source. You'll be prompted to download the "Move to Android" app on your iPhone from the App Store.

Open the app on your iPhone, grant the necessary permissions, and then use your F6 to scan the QR code shown on the iPhone's screen. This creates a direct Wi-Fi connection. You can then select your iCloud data to transfer, like contacts, calendar events, and photos. Remember, iOS apps won't transfer, so you'll need to download fresh versions from the Google Play Store.

Restore from a Google Cloud Backup

Don't have your old phone anymore? You can restore directly from the Google backup you made earlier. During the F6's setup, sign in with the same Google account. When prompted, choose to restore from a cloud backup.

Select the most recent backup from your old device. Your apps will begin downloading automatically, and your saved settings and data will be applied. This method is perfect if you've already factory reset or sold your previous phone.

Manually Move WhatsApp Chats

WhatsApp doesn't automatically transfer with your general phone data, but its own tool works well. On your old Android phone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Chats > Chat transfer. Tap Start.

On your POCO F6, install WhatsApp from the Play Store, verify your number, and you'll be prompted to scan the QR code displayed on your old phone. Your entire chat history will move over. For moving from iPhone, you'll need to use WhatsApp's "Move chats to Android" feature, which requires a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Fine-Tune Your New POCO F6

Once the major data transfer is complete, log into your other important apps like social media, banking, and email. Your contacts and calendar should already be there via Google sync.

I'd recommend checking out the battery settings. With the 90W hyper charging, enabling Battery protection mode in settings can help maintain long-term battery health by slowing charging past 80%. Also, if you find the POCO launcher has too many ads, consider installing a third-party launcher like Nova or Lawnchair from the Play Store for a cleaner experience.

Finally, when you're completely sure everything is on your new F6, perform a factory reset on your old phone to wipe your personal data before you pass it on or trade it in.
