Switching to the Honor Magic 7 Pro is exciting, but the thought of moving all your photos, messages, and apps can be daunting. The good news is, with MagicOS 9.0 and Android 15, the process is smoother than ever. You can get everything moved over without losing a single chat or photo.

Start the Transfer During Initial Setup

The absolute best time to move your data is when you first power on your new Magic 7 Pro. After selecting your language, you'll reach a "Copy data" screen. Tap Next and choose where you're copying from. This built-in tool is your fastest path to a complete transfer.

If your old phone is an Android device, select "Android phone." You'll be prompted to connect the two phones. On your old device, open the Google app and say "set up my device," or navigate to Settings > Google > Set up & restore > Set up nearby device. Your Magic 7 Pro will find it and create a secure Wi-Fi connection for the transfer.

Use a USB-C Cable for a Direct Connection

For the most reliable and comprehensive transfer, I'd start with a USB cable. You'll need a USB-C to USB-C cable, or the appropriate adapter for your old phone's port. Connect the two phones directly when prompted during setup.

This method doesn't rely on your Wi-Fi network speed and often transfers more data types. Your new Honor phone will scan the old device and let you pick exactly what to bring over, including system settings, call logs, and even some app layouts.

Restore from a Google One Backup

Maybe your old phone is already gone, or you prefer a cloud-based method. During the Magic 7 Pro's setup, sign into your primary Google account. You'll see an option to restore from a cloud backup. Choose the most recent backup from your previous Android phone.

This will reinstall your apps and pull down their associated data, along with device settings. Just ensure your old phone backed up recently. You can check by going to Settings > Google > Backup on your old device. A Google One subscription gives you more storage for comprehensive backups.

Moving from an iPhone to Your Magic 7 Pro

Switching from iOS? Honor's setup wizard has you covered. When you reach the data source selection, choose "iPhone." You'll be guided to download the "Move to Android" app from the App Store on your iPhone. Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions.

It will create a private Wi-Fi network to transfer your contacts, calendar events, photos, videos, and even your iMessage conversations. Remember, iOS apps won't transfer, but the Play Store will suggest Android equivalents. You'll need to sign into your accounts (like social media or banking) fresh on the new phone.

Let Your Google Account Handle the Sync

A huge amount of your digital life is already tied to your Google account. Simply signing in on your new Honor Magic 7 Pro will automatically sync your contacts, calendar, Gmail, and Chrome bookmarks and history. It's seamless.

To see what's syncing or to toggle specific items, go to Settings > Accounts & backup > Manage accounts > Google on your Magic 7 Pro. This is also where you'd add other accounts, like your work email or cloud storage services.

Transfer WhatsApp Chats Specifically

Your conversations are precious. To move WhatsApp from an old Android phone, open WhatsApp on the old device, tap the three dots for Settings > Chats > Chat transfer. Follow the prompts to generate a QR code, then scan it with your new Magic 7 Pro.

If coming from iPhone, you'll need to use WhatsApp's "Move to Android" feature within the app before you start the main phone transfer. For other messaging apps or social media, check their settings for a chat backup or transfer option, usually linked to your account or phone number.

Get Your New Honor Phone Set Up Perfectly

Once the big transfer is done, spend a few minutes personalizing your Magic 7 Pro. The silicon-carbon battery provides excellent endurance, so you can set it up without worrying about a quick drain. Explore features like the eye protection mode in settings for more comfortable nighttime reading.

Log into any apps that require fresh authentication, like banking or streaming services. Double-check that your photos are all in the Gallery app and your messages came through. When you're completely satisfied that everything is on your new phone, perform a factory reset on your old device before you pass it on or trade it in.
