Mobile home internet setup gets confusing fast because the right equipment depends on what reaches your exact address. Your home could have coax, fiber, Fios, 5G home internet, satellite, fixed wireless, or shared park Wi-Fi. Start by checking availability, compare the real plan terms, then follow the setup path for the service you ordered.

1. Check What Reaches Your Mobile Home

Start with the address. Go to the FCC National Broadband Map, search your mobile-home address, select the location, then review the reported providers, technology types, and maximum advertised download and upload speeds.

If the map hides slower options, open the map filters and include services below the default 25 Mbps display threshold.

For a mobile-home park, manufactured-home community, or RV park, ask the office or landlord for the Wi-Fi network name, password, portal URL, device-registration rules, and support contact.

Use a personal router or repeater only when the property rules allow it.

2. Compare Plans Before You Order

At checkout, open the plan's Broadband Label.

Compare the monthly price, fees, typical speeds, data limits, contract terms, and provider policies before you place the order.

If you need a lower bill, check Lifeline.

Eligible low-income subscribers apply through the program, choose a participating phone or internet provider, then ask that provider to apply the Lifeline benefit to qualifying broadband or phone service.

Skip old instructions that tell you to use the Affordable Connectivity Program for a new order. The FCC says ACP ended on June 1, 2024.

3. Install Cable Fiber or Fios Equipment

Xfinity cable or NOW Internet: Connect the Xfinity Gateway or compatible modem to coax and power.

Open the Xfinity app, sign in with your Xfinity ID, tap Get Started, then follow the activation prompts.

Xfinity staff have given conflicting guidance on whether NOW Internet lets you rename the network and set your own password, so if the activation flow does not offer it, check the Xfinity app and the NOW Internet FAQs.

AT&T Fiber with BGW320: Connect the gateway to the fiber jack with the green-tip fiber cable, or connect it to the ONT with the red-tip Ethernet cable.

Open AT&T Smart Home Manager, sign in with your AT&T ID, then follow the BGW320 setup prompts.

Verizon Fios: Receive or pick up the Verizon equipment.

Sign in to My Verizon, then follow the step-by-step Fios self-install instructions for internet, TV, or phone service.

If Verizon marks the address for wiring or ONT work, use professional installation instead of self-install.

4. Place a 5G or Fixed Wireless Gateway

5G home internet and fixed wireless depend on gateway placement. Put the gateway where the provider app tells you to test signal, then activate it before moving on to routers, extenders, or mesh.

Verizon 5G Home or LTE Home Internet: Open the My Verizon app, start the 5G Home setup flow, place the gateway near a window or recommended location, connect power, then follow the app-guided activation and signal-placement steps.

If Verizon requires an outdoor receiver, schedule professional setup.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet: Download T-Life, sign in with your T-Mobile ID, approve the app's terms, notification, and location permissions, then use the gateway placement assistant to test multiple locations.

If setup gets stuck, update T-Life, confirm the gateway has power, connect the phone to the gateway Wi-Fi, power-cycle the gateway, restart the phone, then uninstall and reinstall T-Life.

AT&T Internet Air: Open AT&T Smart Home Manager, sign in with your AT&T ID, select Get started on the Internet Air setup screen, then follow the prompts to place and activate the All-Fi Hub.

Viasat Fixed Wireless: Install the SIM if required, connect Ethernet to the outdoor unit, place the unit outside or on a window facing the nearest tower, connect it to the PoE adapter's PoE port, join the Manage-XYZ Wi-Fi, open the login page, select Device Setup, test locations, mount the best spot, then use the eero app to create the home Wi-Fi network.

5. Choose Satellite When Ground Service Is Missing

Starlink: Download the Starlink app, use the obstruction checker to choose a clear install location, assemble and power the kit, connect to the Starlink Wi-Fi, then open Settings > Router, enter the Wi-Fi network name and password, and tap Save.

If the app is unavailable, go to starlink.com/setup, choose Activate online, then select the setup guide for your kit model.

Viasat satellite: Order Viasat satellite internet and schedule professional installation.

The technician mounts and points the dish, connects the modem, initializes service, checks operation, helps select the Wi-Fi name and password, and explains how to connect devices.

Hughesnet: Order Hughesnet service for the address.

Hughesnet provides the satellite dish and Wi-Fi Modem, and a professional technician installs the equipment.

The location needs a clear view of the southern sky.

6. Build Wi-Fi Around the Home

After the internet service is active, set the Wi-Fi name and password in the provider app or router app.

Use Xfinity app for Xfinity, Smart Home Manager for AT&T, My Verizon for Verizon, and T-Life for T-Mobile.

TP-Link router: Connect the modem, ONT, or wall Ethernet to the router WAN port.

Connect a device to the TP-Link router, open tplinkwifi.net or the router's default IP, usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (TP-Link Deco mesh units use tplinkdeco.net or 192.168.68.1), then follow the setup wizard for time zone, ISP connection type, Wi-Fi name, password, and firmware update.

App setup uses TP-Link Tether.

NETGEAR Nighthawk: Connect the phone to the NETGEAR router Wi-Fi, open the Nighthawk app, and sign in with a NETGEAR account.

Browser setup uses www.routerlogin.net, www.routerlogin.com, 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1.

eero mesh: Connect Ethernet from the modem, fiber ONT, or modem-router combo to any port on the gateway eero.

Power the modem and eero, wait for the solid blue light, set the eero location, create the Wi-Fi network name and password, then tap Finish Setup or Add another eero.

Google Nest Wifi Pro or Nest Wifi: Open the Google Home app, set up a home, connect Ethernet from the modem to the router WAN port, plug in the router, tap Add > Device, scan the QR code or choose Use setup code, then name the Wi-Fi and set a secure password.

For weak rooms, add a compatible extender.

With WPS models, plug the extender in near the router, wait for the Power LED to become solid, press WPS on the extender, press WPS on the router within 2 minutes, wait for the solid signal light, then move the extender halfway between the router and the weak area.

If the ISP gateway has WPS disabled, use the extender's app or web setup.

For AT&T All-Fi Extender, open Smart Home Manager > Network, select the Wi-Fi equipment card or the + symbol, then follow the prompts.

For an Xfinity WiFi Extender, plug the Pod into an indoor outlet, then open the Xfinity app and go to Account > Add a Device and pick your WiFi Boost Pod, or tap More > Add a Device > WiFi Extender, and follow the on-screen steps.

Use WiFi > View WiFi equipment later to check device details or remove an extender.

7. Use a Hotspot While You Wait

A hotspot works as a backup while installation is pending or service is out. Your phone, tablet, or PC needs a data plan that includes hotspot or tethering.

iPhone or cellular iPad: Open Settings > Personal Hotspot, or Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.

Turn on Allow Others to Join, tap Wi-Fi Password to set an 8-character-or-longer password, then pick the iPhone or iPad hotspot from the other device's Wi-Fi list.

Android: Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Hotspot.

If it is missing, tap Edit and drag Hotspot into Quick Settings.

To configure it, touch and hold Hotspot, turn on Wi-Fi hotspot, then edit the hotspot name or password.

Android Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to 10 devices.

Windows 11: Open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot.

Under Share my internet connection from, choose the connection.

Under Share over, choose Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Open Properties > Edit, set the network name and password, tap Save, then turn on Mobile hotspot.

8. Fix Setup Problems Without Starting Over

  1. 1.Check the service address, account, and equipment against the order.
  2. 2.Restart the gateway, modem, router, or hub by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
  3. 3.Open the provider app and check activation, signal, or equipment status.
  4. 4.Move a 5G or fixed-wireless gateway to another window or app-recommended location.
  5. 5.For satellite, check the dish or terminal location for the required clear sky view.
  6. 6.For app setup problems, update the app, restart the phone, then reopen the setup flow.

Use factory reset only for broken settings or provider-directed troubleshooting.

For an AT&T All-Fi Hub, hold the reset button for 10 seconds.

For a Verizon 5G Home gateway, insert a paper clip into the Reset button hole and hold it for at least 10 seconds.

Leave outdated setup methods alone.

NETGEAR Genie is unsupported; use Nighthawk.

New Google Wifi and Nest Wifi setup belongs in Google Home.

Windows Mobile Plans app support ended in February 2026; use the mobile operator website, QR code, or activation code for eSIM.

Windows netsh hostednetwork and ad-hoc hotspot commands are deprecated; use Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot.
