Taking a screenshot on your iPhone 17 Pro is a fundamental skill, perfect for saving receipts, capturing conversations, or sharing something you see on screen. With iOS 26, you have a few different methods to choose from, each useful in different situations. Once you know them all, you'll be able to grab a shot no matter how you're holding your phone.
Use the Button Combo
The classic method is still the fastest for most people. On your iPhone 17 Pro, quickly press and release the Side button and the Volume Up button at the exact same time. You'll see a quick flash and hear a shutter sound if your ringer is on.
A small preview thumbnail will pop up in the bottom-left corner of the display. You can tap it to immediately edit, crop, or mark up the image with the drawing tools. If you just swipe the preview away, the screenshot saves directly to your Photos app in the Screenshots album.
Use AssistiveTouch
If the button combo feels tricky or you have a case that makes pressing them difficult, AssistiveTouch is a great software alternative. First, you need to enable it by going to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and toggling it on.
A small, movable gray button will appear on your screen. Tap it, then navigate to Device > More > Screenshot. You can also customize it so that a double-tap or long press on the AssistiveTouch button triggers a screenshot directly, which is even faster.
Use Back Tap
This is one of the most convenient hidden features. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. You can then assign the screenshot action to either a Double Tap or a Triple Tap on the back of your iPhone 17 Pro.
It works reliably through most cases, so you can literally just tap the back of your phone a couple times to capture the screen. I find this method incredibly useful when my phone is on a desk or I'm holding it in one hand.
Ask Siri
When your hands are literally full, just use your voice. Say "Hey Siri, take a screenshot". Your iPhone 17 Pro will capture whatever is on the display at that moment and save it to your Photos library automatically.
This works regardless of whether Siri is set to respond aloud or just show text on screen. It's a perfect hands-free option for when you're cooking or have your phone mounted in your car.
Capture a Full-Page Screenshot
Web pages, long documents, and emails often don't fit on a single screen. To capture everything, first take a normal screenshot using any method. Then, immediately tap the preview thumbnail that appears.
At the top of the editing screen that opens, you'll see two options: Screen and Full Page. Tap Full Page to see a preview of the entire scrollable content. This saves as a PDF file, which you can then mark up, share, or save directly to your Files app.
Edit and Share Immediately
The real power of screenshots on the iPhone 17 Pro is in the quick editing. As soon as you take a shot, tap the floating preview thumbnail. This opens a set of markup tools where you can crop, draw with your finger or Apple Pencil, add text, or magnify a section.
From that same screen, tap the share icon to send the image via AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or any other app without ever leaving the preview. It streamlines the whole process of capture and share.
Adjust Your Screenshot Preferences
To silence the shutter sound, simply flip the physical ring/silent switch on the left side of your iPhone 17 Pro to silent mode. All screenshots will then be taken quietly.
For full-page screenshots, you can choose a default save location. After capturing one, use the share sheet and select "Save to Files" to pick a specific folder. Many people prefer to send these long PDFs directly to a folder in iCloud Drive for better organization.
All your screenshots, whether single images or full-page PDFs, are neatly collected in the Photos app under the Screenshots album. From there, you can manage, search, and delete them in bulk.
