Capturing what's on your iPhone 16 screen is a daily task, whether you're saving a confirmation number, a funny meme, or a bug report. With iOS 26, you have more ways than ever to grab a screenshot, and each method has its own perfect use case.

Use the Button Combo

The classic method is still the fastest for most people. On your iPhone 16, quickly press and release the Volume Up button and the Side button at the same time. You'll see a quick flash and hear a shutter sound if your ringer is on.

A small thumbnail preview will pop up in the bottom-left corner of the screen. You can tap it to immediately edit, crop, or mark up the image. If you just swipe it away, the screenshot saves directly to your Photos app in the Screenshots album.

Use AssistiveTouch

If the button combo is tricky or you have a case that makes pressing the Side button difficult, AssistiveTouch is a great software alternative. First, enable it by going to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and toggling it on.

A small, movable button will appear on your screen. Tap it, then navigate to Device > More > Screenshot. You can also customize it so a double-tap on the AssistiveTouch button triggers a screenshot directly, which I find much faster.

Use Back Tap

This is one of the coolest hidden features. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. You can then assign the screenshot action to either a Double Tap or a Triple Tap on the back of your iPhone.

Once set up, you can take a screenshot by simply tapping the back of your phone two or three times. It works reliably through most cases, though very thick or rigid ones might interfere with the sensitivity.

Ask Siri

When your hands are literally full, just use your voice. Say "Hey Siri, take a screenshot". Your iPhone 16 will capture whatever is currently displayed on the screen and save it to your Photos library without any further input from you.

This works even if Siri is set to only show text responses on screen, making it a perfect hands-free option.

Capture a Full-Page Screenshot in Safari

This is essential for saving entire web articles, long receipts, or conversations. First, take a regular screenshot using any method. Then, tap the preview thumbnail that appears.

At the top of the editing screen, you'll see options for Screen and Full Page. Tap Full Page to capture everything that scrolls. The iPhone saves this as a PDF file, which you can then mark up, share, or save directly to your Files app.

Edit and Share Immediately

The real power is in the quick editing. After taking a screenshot, that thumbnail in the corner is your gateway. Tap it to open a suite of tools where you can instantly crop, draw with different pen styles, add text, or magnify a section.

From that same editor, tap the share icon to send the image via AirDrop, Messages, or any other app without ever closing the preview. It's a seamless way to share information.

Adjust Your Screenshot Preferences

To silence the shutter sound, simply flip the physical Ring/Silent switch on the left side of your iPhone 16 to silent mode. All screenshots will then be captured quietly.

For full-page screenshots, you can choose a default save location. After capturing one, use the share sheet in the editor to select "Save to Files" and pick a folder. The next time, it might offer to save to that same location, helping you keep those long PDFs organized.

All your screenshots, both images and full-page PDFs, are collected in the Photos app under the Screenshots album for easy access and cleanup later.
