Taking a screenshot on your iPhone 14 is a fundamental skill you'll use all the time. Whether you're saving a confirmation number, capturing a funny meme, or grabbing directions, knowing the quickest method is key. The good news is you have several options, from the classic button press to some clever hidden features.
Use the Button Combo
The most reliable method is using the physical buttons. On your iPhone 14, quickly press and release the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time. You'll see a quick flash and hear a camera shutter sound if your ringer is on.
A small preview thumbnail will pop up in the bottom-left corner of the screen. You can tap it to immediately edit, crop, or mark up the screenshot with the drawing tools. If you just swipe the preview away, the screenshot saves directly to your Photos app.
Use AssistiveTouch
If the button combo is tricky or a button isn't working, AssistiveTouch is a great software alternative. First, you need to enable it by going to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and toggling it on.
A small gray button will appear on your screen. Tap it, then navigate to Device > More > Screenshot. You can also customize it so a double-tap on the AssistiveTouch button takes a screenshot directly, which is much faster.
Use Back Tap
This is one of the coolest hidden features. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. You can set either a Double Tap or Triple Tap on the back of your iPhone 14 to trigger a screenshot.
It takes a little practice to get the tap right, but it works through most cases. I find the triple-tap option is less likely to be triggered accidentally when you're just handling the phone.
Ask Siri
When your hands are dirty or full, just use your voice. Say "Hey Siri, take a screenshot". Your iPhone 14 will capture whatever is on the display at that moment and save it silently to your Photos library.
This works even if Siri is set to only show text responses on screen, so it's a handy hands-free option.
Capture a Full-Page Screenshot
This is perfect for saving entire web articles, long emails, or documents. First, take a normal screenshot using any method. Then, immediately tap the preview thumbnail in the corner.
At the top of the editing screen, you'll see two options: Screen and Full Page. Tap Full Page to capture everything you can scroll through. It saves as a PDF file, which you can then share or store in the Files app.
Edit and Share Immediately
The preview thumbnail is your gateway to quick edits. Tap it to open the markup tools where you can draw, add text, magnify a section, or crop the image right away. When you're done, tap "Done" to save or delete.
You can also tap the share icon from this preview to send the screenshot via AirDrop, Messages, or any other app without ever opening your Photos library. It's the fastest way to get a picture from your screen to someone else's device.
Adjust Your Screenshot Preferences
To take silent screenshots, simply flip the physical ring/silent switch on the left side of your iPhone 14. With the switch set to silent, the camera shutter sound won't play.
For full-page screenshots, you can choose where the PDF saves each time using the share sheet. While some people like them going straight to Files, I usually just save them to Photos for simplicity, as they get sorted into their own album automatically.
All your screenshots are collected in the Photos app under the Screenshots album for easy finding later. From there, you can organize, search, or delete them in bulk.
