Screen recording on your Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is a fantastic way to create tutorials, save moments from video calls, or capture your gameplay. The built-in tool is powerful and easy to access right from your Quick Settings panel.
Access the Screen Recorder Tool
Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to pull down the full Quick Settings menu. Look for the Screen recorder tile, which looks like a small video camera. If you don't see it immediately, swipe to the end of the tiles and tap the + or Edit button to add it from the list of available buttons.
Once you've found it, just tap the Screen recorder tile. A menu will pop up from the bottom of the screen asking you to configure your audio before you start.
Configure Your Audio Source
This step is crucial for getting the sound you want. You'll see three clear options. No sound records a silent video of just your screen. Media sounds captures any audio playing from the tablet itself, like game sounds or music from an app.
The third option, Media sounds and micStart recording. You'll get a three-second countdown.
Manage Your Recording Session
After the countdown, a small, floating control bar will appear on your screen. It has a pause button, a stop button, and a timer so you can track the length. You can drag this toolbar anywhere on the edge of the display if it's blocking something important.
Just navigate to whatever app or screen you want to capture. The tablet is recording everything you see and do. I've found this method works seamlessly for everything from browsing the web to demonstrating features in Samsung DeX mode.
Use the Live Drawing Feature
One of the best features for tutorials is live drawing. Tap the pencil icon on the floating toolbar. This lets you draw directly on your screen with your finger or S Pen while the recording is happening.
You can change the pen color and thickness. It's ideal for circling a button, highlighting text, or drawing arrows to guide a viewer's attention in real time.
Save and Locate Your Video
To finish, tap the stop button (the square icon) on the floating toolbar. You can also swipe down to see your notifications and tap the "Screen recorder is recording" notification to stop. The video saves automatically to your Gallery app.
You can find it in the Albums tab under "Screen recordings." It's also in your main "Videos" timeline. The file is ready to share immediately.
Trim and Edit Your Recording
Open the video in the Gallery app and tap the Edit button (it looks like a pencil). The built-in video editor lets you trim the start and end points, which is great for cutting out the countdown or any fumbling at the beginning.
You can also adjust the playback speed, add background music, or insert text stickers. When you're done editing, tap Save to create a new file or overwrite the original.
Customize the Recorder Settings
For more control, dive into the settings. Go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here, you can change the video quality. On the Tab S9, you can record up to 1080p resolution.
You can also toggle "Show touches" on, which displays a small circle where you tap the screen. This is incredibly helpful for instructional videos. You can even set a preference for whether the front camera picture-in-picture window is large or small.
Understand the Recording Limitations
Due to copyright protection, most premium streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max will block screen recording. You'll typically see a black screen or an error message where the video should be.
Secure apps, like those for banking or digital payments, will also prevent recording for your safety. For virtually everything else, your own photos, web browsing, games, and most other apps, the screen recorder will work perfectly.
