Factory resetting your POCO X7 Pro is the most definitive way to clear out software gremlins or prepare it for a new owner. It completely erases all your personal data, apps, and settings, returning the phone to the state it was in when you first took it out of the box.
Back Up Everything Before You Start
This is the most critical step. A factory reset is permanent, so you need to secure your data first. Head to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Local backups to create a backup on your device or an SD card.
For cloud backup, ensure your Google account is syncing. Go to Settings > Google > Backup and check that backup is on for your account. Tap Back up now for good measure. Your photos and videos should be safely syncing to Google Photos as well.
Sign Out of Your Accounts
To avoid getting locked out by Factory Reset Protection (FRP), you need to remove your main accounts. Go to Settings > Passwords & security > Authorisation & revocation. Here, you can find and remove your Mi Account, which is POCO's ecosystem account.
Next, go to Settings > Passwords & accounts, select your Google account, and tap Remove account. Doing this before the reset ensures a smooth setup process afterward.
Perform the Reset from HyperOS Settings
This is the standard method when your phone is working. Open Settings and go to Additional settings > Backup & reset > Erase all data (factory reset).
The phone will show you exactly what will be deleted. Tap Erase all data at the bottom. You'll be asked to enter your device password or PIN to confirm. The POCO X7 Pro will then restart and begin the wiping process, which takes a few minutes.
Use Recovery Mode If the Phone Won't Boot
If your POCO X7 Pro is frozen, stuck in a boot loop, or the screen is unresponsive, you can reset it using the hardware buttons. First, power the phone off completely.
Once it's off, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button together. Keep holding them until you see the POCO or Mi logo, then release. This will boot you into the Recovery Mode menu.
Use the Volume buttons to navigate to Wipe data and select it with the Power button. You'll then need to confirm by selecting Wipe all data. After it completes, choose Reboot to start up your freshly reset phone.
Try a Less Drastic Reset First
For issues like Wi-Fi dropping, Bluetooth pairing problems, or general app misbehavior, a full factory reset might be overkill. HyperOS offers targeted resets that can solve these problems.
Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset. Here you'll find options to Reset network settings or Reset app preferences. These clear connection caches and app defaults without touching your personal files.
Getting Your POCO X7 Pro Running Again
After the reset, you'll go through the standard Android setup. Connect to Wi-Fi and sign back into your Google account. When prompted, choose to restore your data from the Google Drive backup you made earlier.
This will reinstall your apps and bring back many settings. You'll also need to log back into individual apps like social media or banking. I'd recommend checking your notification settings in HyperOS 2 afterward, as some users report occasional delays that might need a quick reconfigure.
When a Reset Makes Sense
A factory reset is your best tool for solving persistent slowdowns, unexplained battery drain on that large 6000mAh cell, or software glitches that survive a normal restart. It's also absolutely necessary if you're selling or giving away the phone.
For minor performance hiccups, especially in games, try enabling the built-in Game Turbo feature from the sidebar first. If the problem is just one app acting up, clearing its cache or data in the app settings is a much faster solution.
