AnyDesk is a powerful remote desktop software that lets you connect to other devices from anywhere. When you first install AnyDesk, you get a unique numerical ID that identifies your device. But you can also set up an alias - a more descriptive name that's easier to remember than a string of numbers.

Understanding AnyDesk IDs and Aliases

Your AnyDesk ID is a permanent numerical address assigned to your device when you install the software. Think of it like a phone number for your computer - it's how other devices find and connect to yours.

An alias is a user-friendly name you can assign to your AnyDesk ID. Instead of typing a long number, you can use a simple name like "Office-PC" or "Home-Laptop" to connect to your devices.

Who Can Change Their AnyDesk Alias

Your ability to change your alias depends on your license type:

  • Free users: You can only set your alias once during the initial setup. After that, it becomes permanent.
  • Paid license users: You can change your alias up to three times with a Solo license.

If you're using the free version and want to change your alias, you'll need to upgrade to a paid license.

How to Change Your AnyDesk Alias

If you have a paid license, here's how to update your alias:

  1. 1.Open AnyDesk on your computer
  2. 2.Go to Settings and find the Identity section
  3. 3.Click on "Choose alias" in the Alias settings
  4. 4.Enter your new desired alias in the pop-up window
  5. 5.Save your changes

You can also right-click on your AnyDesk ID in the main interface and select "Choose alias" from the menu.

Managing Multiple Aliases

With a paid license, you can assign up to three aliases to a single AnyDesk ID in the public namespace. These aliases will end with "@ad" to indicate they're part of AnyDesk's public system.

For businesses, custom namespaces are available where all your devices can have aliases ending with your company name instead of "@ad". This provides better organization and security.

Important Notes About Aliases

  • Once you set an alias in the public namespace, it becomes permanently linked to your AnyDesk ID and cannot be removed or reassigned
  • If you regularly need to change aliases or want more flexibility, consider using a custom namespace
  • Your alias and ID settings are stored in configuration files on your device
  • Uninstalling AnyDesk will remove your configuration files unless you specifically back them up first

Changing your AnyDesk alias makes remote connections much more convenient, especially when managing multiple devices. Just remember that free users get one chance to set their alias, while paid users have more flexibility.
